My pity-party;

Three or four weeks of severe broncitis . Loss of sleep, mood of constipated alligator. Chest felt like a stoked furnace. Searched for & found mustard-plaster formula. Used 2 vials of powdered mustard . About zilch results.

Creme rub pain gel. More zilch . Vicks chest rub . Mucinex . Finally expectorating yellow mucus in small amounts . Chest feeling like raw beef . Coughing stronger & more painful.

Coughing ,expelling more air than lungs can recover, mild light-head-iness. Saturday morning I started up the wheelchair ramp [ be prepared ? ] & Patsy looked down at me & asked if I was hurt . Foolish question !

I imagined myself balled up tight as spiders sometimes do . One mass of pain,I tried to locate my legs but couldn't find them . Panic set in ! I knew how fragile my lower back was & thought if I came out of this in a wheelchair,I'd be most fortunate. Finally found my legs & both had feeling . Horray !

Next I looked for my right arm but it was temporarily lost . It was really my worst pain yet & finally I discovered it. That was the side I fell on . While trying to roll off it,mr shoulder became the worst spot . D a y u m ! A broken arm ,shoulder & collarbone . Patsy tried to help me up . Dumb . She & a neighbor lady helped me get over on my back but I could go no further.

I wanted to drive myself to emergency but was heavily vetoed .

Okay , dial 911

Contuined.....

Attempt to add part 2.....

In the ambulance ,hands are busy. Cervical collar ,one size too small ,necessitating a finger wedged in the lower part so I could swallow.Cut tee-shirt off, started IV, located hairiest parts of my body [ yes Virginia , I do have a hairy chest ] & super-glued sensors to feed into the ER computer. One IV & one mouse trapped finger,we arrived.

Went directly in,thanks to the data feed. Dr. from some -stan or bul who
became "Dr. shrill mumbles ". Told him & others [still strapped down] unseen my tale of woe.

Breath-taking gurney ride,dirt-tracking around sharp ,busy corners to X-ray & cat-scan. Long wait growing longer & longer.... Was told nothing broken . Dr remarked my exercise probably kept me free from breaks because of my muscle mass. Get a antibiotic drip lasting 90 minutes. As that worked, Dr. deadened my left eyebrow & maybe part of the cheek . Shortly ,he started stitching & I realized my brow wasn't shaved. He mumbled something, told me I had no breaks & left after I refused to overnight.

Now ,I could see what I'd done. Wow,the injury was a circle about the size of an open end coffee cup .The sliced eyebrow required about 8 or 10 or more stitches. My cheek was bruised & swollen in a complete circle & now
the intense pain . I was bandaged & given 2 scrips for antibiotics, NOT pain.

Five days later I went to VA Clinic,Daytona & was issued a 4 wheel walker with a basket & seat. Doc said I was moving too fast for my cane & wanted to slow me down . He scripted me percodan too but the pharmacy failed to put in my bag VA refuses to mail narcotics anymore. I have tramadol so I'm doing okay.

Hospital owned by religious group BUT it is a business. They screwed me out of over $800 3 years ago by not billing VA when I had the mother of boils on my knee & only billed Medicare, ergo the difference came from me. Notified VA & was told they would very carefully screen this bill .

How was your last week ?

Uncle Alan would'a took better care of self 'd I know I'd live so long !

Take care of yourself, uncle Alan.
I know you have a lot on your plate right now but I have to ask..

Cataracts unchanged . I can either request an evaluation or wait until I get another eye test. Hate to have surgery in Gainesville because Patsy doesn't drive & I'd have to get someone else to go along to drive.

I sure miss night driving [short runs okay ] but those bright halos do hurt . My Legion post is about 25 miles inland & roads are narrow & full of curves . If approached ,I must creep along shoulder edge . Bummer ! No complaint though, I'm close to 79 & most of me still works.

Thanks for asking.

New Dr. today . Found I DID have a concussion from new X-rays. He explained my sensation of falling into a void when
I laid down . Also said time will cure it dependind on the severity of the concussion. Cheering .

Doctors sometimes remind me of the blind men & the elephant , eh ?

How was your last week ?

A country lad

I'm a country dweller too and live alone except for my faithful hound dog ...nothing like a bit of home made ingenuity to overcome a short fall.

I ware eye glasses and had run out of cleaner. I also had lost the little spray bottle I use to squirt the cleaning solution onto the lenses.

Bright idea #1: make my own cleaner using Methylated spirits;

Bright idea #2: put it into an old eye dropper bottle.

To make sure I didn't mistake home made cleaner for my eye drops I took the label of the old clear plastic bottle and added Windex to the Methylated spirits to add a blue tint to the liquid to avoid any chance of mishap.

Anyone already guess what happens next?

After several hours at the computer reading and posting to BF my eyes feel a bit sore. Taking off my glasses, I reach across the table and feel the familiar plastic eye drops bottle under my hand.

Lift head backwards and open left eye wide ...immediate burning pain without
peer !!!

Wordlessly I run to the nearby kitchen and cup cold running water to my screwed shut eye ...several minutes later the red blurring starts to fade and I can see again out of the eye.

The pain lingers for several hours but the the stupidity of the incident and what could have resulted is still with me.:o :(

I have lived alone too & I kept an eye-cup & Visine on my countertop because Florida sand finds your eyes when using a riding mower.

Glad you suffered no permant damage by following blind instinct. [no pun intended]

When the going gets tough ,the tough.....

Uncle Alan a tough old bird.....:)
