FRN Liners?

Just curious, never had a problem but I also don't disassemble my knives very often to check. How rust prone/resistant are the skeletonized liners used with FRN knives such as an E4? I like to carry my E4 FFG both EDC as well as IWB during jogging and such, afterwards it gets rinsed thoroughly with warm tap warmer and occasionally (but not very) wash with dishsoap, dried and then wiped and lubed with CLP.

Like I said, never had an issue in the past, but I also don't strip to look at the liners. Any risk at all? What steel is used in the liners and just how resistant are they?

I have never had an issue, even in the salty, muggy, 100% humidity weather 24/7 that we have here.

I've never had any issues either. I have no idea exactly which steel, or steels, they use for liners. I do know that there are quite a few steels out there which, while not really suited to use as blade steels, are highly rust resistant. Think tableware. Have you ever seen rust on any of those knives, forks, or spoons? I never have, and I'm a lousy housekeeper, so I've left them sitting in the sink, dirty, for days more than once. Ditto for pots and pans.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as you show even a modicum of precaution. I can eventually rust them fishing on the saltwater everyday but thats why they make the linerless salt knives. Sounds like you already take normal precautions like drying the knife after washing so for any normal use you should never have any issue.

There's a post here with pics from a couple of years ago where a guy took apart his purple FFG Delica after a couple of years use fishing, etc. I think there was some light rust in places but it cleaned right up. I don't think he maintained the knife either.

I flooded my liner area with tuffglide on the FFG Endura I carry IWB while jogging and haven't had any rust issues and I don't rinse it out at all.

I'd imagine they use something like 410 or some other very low carbon steel, so I don't think you'd have much problems with it. Within reason, anyway. It might have a little rust in some places if you live in a humid area.
