FRN scales rub. Normal?

I just bought a Stretch ZDP189 and the FRN scales rub at the blade pivot and gives kind of a grinding feeling. I returned and got a second one that has the same issue (same lot perhaps?). Is this normal for the Stretch? My Delica doesn't rub at all and is as smooth as butter.

Thanks for any advice.
Nick

Try a wash in hot soapy water and then a rinse in hot water, followed by drying. Cycle the blade open and closed while in the water. That should solve the grinding problem.

Totally normal.....When I got my SB one, I noticed it. After searching the web I found many pictures and posts about the issue. If you look at where the FRN and blade meet, they touch. One of the reasons my safe queen SB went into EDC rotation.

Yeah, it's definitely the frn scales rubbing (They actually touch). Is this something Spyderco would fix if I sent it in? I feel like a $100+ knife should not have this happening... My $60 Delica doesn't have this issue and is smooth as silk from the first day and I have done nothing except use it.

I agree to some extent.....but it is in the knife design. Makes no sense to me since the design is essentially an Endura/Delica build, but whatever. It will take a design change to fix it. I guess Spyderco could file down the FRN on yours, but personally I would just live with it.

BTW, while mine is scratched where the FRN touches, the knife has smoothed out and it appears that the rubbing has stopped or stabilized.

Thanks... I love the blade shape/handle (definitely not getting rid of it) I am just a little disappointed with this issue... :(

Half of my FRN Spyderco knives do this. I'd bet that the tip is way off center when it's closed, too.

I just live with it; it doesn't hurt the knife's function anyway.

I know how you feel, but keep in mind, the FRN models are worker knives, not exactly considered to be heirloom grade pieces. Can you take and post some pictures of the knife closed so you can see the centering? Any any other pictures to see what exactly is the matter?

All my Delicas and Enduras when closed and held to the light show a gap and you can see the washers. The Stretch.....nope.
