Frog Lube. I think that is what my brother recommended for removing rust. I'll have to ask him again. It was Frog - something. He is a construction contractor, so I guess he uses it to clean tools.

I looked it up, and found different forms of Frog Lube: Paste, liquid, wipes, tub, tube, squeeze bottle, spray. Too many choices.

What is best for just knives? I have both folders and fixed.

Correction: my brother actually recommended something called Bull Frog. Now he is recommending Boe-shield T9.

I would still like to know what you all think of Frog Lube.

Rather than preventive measures, I am looking for a product that removes the rust after it has already formed.

For rust removal, I'm sure there are several products. I would use CLP as it would be handy for me since I already have it. But for maintenance and lubrication, i use mineral oil because it's food grade. I use my carry knife for anything including cutting things up that I eat like fruit or a nice steak in a restaurant.

Frog Lube is more a protectant, I have some, and use it on the exterior of a few of my long guns when they are put in the case. Appears to work ok so far.

I have also used it as rust-inhibitor for my carbon steel knives, and for that it works pretty good.

As far as removing rust, you are going to need something that will either chemically or mechanically remove it. Depending on how bad your rust is- you may be able to use a piece of medium (7447) scotchbrite and some acetone/alcohol to scrub it off.

I have used Naval Jelly as well to remove rust. Worked pretty good for me. It converts the rust to a different chemical composition, and allows it to be scrubbed off pretty easily.
