Hi All,

Have any of you every tried Frog Lube CLP on your HI blades to preserve them? I use this product on all of my 1911s and on a ZT 350 knife, so far I like the results.

Best,

I've heard a little about frog lube on a couple gun forums and I know it's got a pretty vocal following. Haven't really heard of anyone using it on their knives much. Since I like to use my knives to cut food now and then, I usually just use mineral oil.

I just bought a bottle a couple weeks ago.. It seems fine to me. I have used it on my knives, and plan to wipe down my guns with it this weekend.

I am a Mineral oil guy and have had great results with it over the years.. There is a smell to the frog lube, not bad, but it does have an odor. I am sure it would be great to carry that smell in the field for hunting..

No, but I'll look into it for my guns. I've been shooting one of those Turkish made 1911's as of late, and I'm experimenting with what to "wet" it with. Going from a Glock 21 to a more mechanical pistol has proven that I now need to think a bit more about what I use to lube the gun with.

For my HI's, I just wipe them down with mineral oil or a gun polishing cloth. That keeps them just fine, for me.

A tip I've been given is to heat whatever you're wanting to treat. Use a hair dryer to get the metal as hot as you can stand to handle, then coat the piece with the lube. Let cool, then wipe off the excess.
I received a kit as a gift recently. Treated a couple guns & my AK15. Will shoot an IDPA match this Sat., cleanup afterwards should tell me something. Seems to be a pretty good product, haven't decided yet if the long term benefit is worth the $$.

No, I have used Ballistol (which is Baslistic Oil). I found out it has mineral oil in it. Ballistol works and other specialty oils do too. But there is a great oil for our knives that I would like to promote.
Plus these gun oils and special oils are expensive and some have actually hurt the steel in our knives.

So I make this plead: use the much cheaper, simple, effective, proven long long long history, multipurpose/multiple use, cleans, natural, non-toxic, and food safe...that's right mineral oil.

Above left the mineral oil I use now
After living in Japan for nine years I know that Japanese have used Mineral Oil for 1,000's of years on their pure carbon blades. The secret is to do routine maintenance:
1. When you use the blade wipe it off before putting it in it's sheath or away.
2. Have a scheduled time/date to do oiling. I oiled once every 6 months in Las Vegas, NV.
I oil once every 2 months now because I live in much more humid Anchorage, AK.
If the above is followed your knife or sword with never rust and you will have more money in your pocket .

Thanks for everyone's input. I will definitely use mineral oil on my M-43 and the new Giant Chitlangi Bowie I just ordered from Yangdu.
