Hi Everybody,

Had a customer from Alaska ask for a special sheath with a carry stud/frog set up.

I have seen leather sheaths done kind of like this but not kydex ? If I am wrong I did not know.

*****I have been corrected Mike Sastre has been making them for years **** I must have forgot & I am sorry, not my style to take anothers design, sorry Mike.

If anyone would like a Frogg style sheath please see Mike at;

Again sorry Mike.

What I made was a peice of kydex that wraps around & bolts to the sheath so that if you want to carry with a tec-lok you unbolt the frog & bolt the tec-lok on.

Works great if you want to static cord it also.

Here is what I came up with.

Looks nice! I've always liked the versitility of the frog stud. (That sounds a little odd?)

But,

That feature is a carry method thats been around for a few hundred years, its not the intellectual property of anyone. I'm sure if you talked to Mike he would have the same opinion. Its a great feature and shouldnt be limited to any one maker.

I like sheaths with frogs on 'em. They're real handy for big knives if you stand up/ sit down often. That looks like a nice setup.

I learned that carry style from Bill Bagwell - it's not intellectual property, though I was the first (I know of) to adapt that to kydex. Already told David to make them if he wants. I do a different twist on them anyway - tension is on ricasso, not the guard, and set for a draw from concealment. This is a very versatile old time carry. Amazed people ever got away from it.

Looks like a cool sheathing system.

I have a question though. Since its not connected I assume that your pants need to be decently tight at the waist line? (No, sagging pants to the back of the knees) Also when you pull the knife out does the sheath stay in place?

Thanks

Depends on the sheath a leather one will after it is broken in and depending on how tight your belt is and how you skin it (speed of pull) will draw and leave the sheath in place. With Kydex a sheath from Mike S will do the same as a properly fit leather one will. Some kydex sheaths I have experimented with will also do the same but on a Busse that the kydex is molded around handle use of a static line will make sure when you pull it fast you get the naked knife not a sheathed one.

^You can also use a sheath that allows the indexing to be disengaged by the thumb as you draw the knife. Many 2-piece Kydex sheaths function like that anyway.

Frogs are great. I like them. This is a really handy way to carry a big knife.

I am glad that no one who has not been dead for centuries is trying to take credit for them as intellectual property.

I need to set some of my sheaths up like that.
