Got this Stanley camping axe from a local picker. From what I gathered, this particular axe or hatchet was manufactured in 1972-1973 based on the markings on the handle, 59-201. It was painted black and had a few dings on the edge and had to re-profile it with a bastard file. Lovely little find, its sharp as my Lionsteel M3 now.

Looks like a decent hatchet, and 70's sounds about right as the later stuff was only marked on the handle.

It's great when you find one with its original haft in good condition. I wonder who made them for Stanley. During that time period Woodings Verona and Mann Edge Tool were probably the most likely manufacturers.

more than likely Mann, as i have one marked with an M 1-1/4. nice zero beveled edge.
good grain handle too.
