Here’s a Basic 5 I had bead-blast finished quite a while back by the
Busse shop (when they were still taking orders for that sort of thing). I
had them leave the handle off, and recently decided what I wanted done with
it: sent it to Dennis Riley for a cut-and-mortised stag handle, nickel-silver guard, and butt cap.

I like this knife a lot--very solid/comfortable feel in hand, in all
positions. Didn’t have anything more fancy done, because it’s to be a
working hunter, but I really like the look as well. Simple, rugged--might
even say it exudes a certain “Basic” beauty?

Man, if I would have seen that on a table at a show, I would have never guessed it was a Basic. It sure is pretty, but I am a purist I guess, I like that rubber handle. :) Very nice piece though Will.

Man, that is some of the nicest looking stag I've seen in a long time! Great knife.
:D

That stag looks perfect on that configuration of the Basic. A great package.

Thanks for the nice words, guys. Here is a pic of the butt--with Dennis' trademark pommel cap, following the stag's irregularities around the rim. I had him make the handle fairly wide and flat to allow good torque control--fills the hand nicely.

would never of guessed that that blade was a Basic

Cool

I keep thinking about having handles put on some of my small Busse knives.

That is a very good looking knife. The shaped pommel cap is a very cool idea. It makes it look very stream lined.

That is a sharp looking knife, no pun intended. Why did Busse stop doing bead-blasting requests? I have a couple that I want done.

Way cool Will.

The 5 is my favorite of the Basics and the only one I kept. Working Hunter indeed! That thing will take a licking and be looking so good at the same time.

What kind of pants ya gonna get for it? Not the factory sheath I'm sure. LOL That rig looks to be needing leather to compliment the Stag.
