My thread titles suck I know but at least this one rhymes a little !

Anyways I'd taken a knife out today that I have not posted about much, main reason being I don't much care for folders but I figured I'd give it some air time today.
We had to wade across this bog land to start with, the dogs loved getting dirty here :

I then decided to make a fatwood fuzzy with the said folder:

I used the hoof cleaner thingy to strike the ferro rod, not having a horse I had to find some use for it !

I now have to find a use for the Marlin spike other than undoing knots !

As I started to leave the bog and enter the grassy sections I came across this:

Ok I'll get a little closer but not for long now, these critters bite !

I noticed that the Silver weed was starting to come up everywhere. The cooked roots were an important food source for the first nation people:

Cont'd.

Oh I do I do love me some Ants, I don't care if they bite me they're natures greatest creature imo. Awesome pics, I love the ant pic and obviously Maisy in the blog is golden, would have been platinum if she was looking at you.

All through the grass sections you could make out rabbit runs ( Scat everywhere), this would be the perfect spot to set up the spring snare I made yesterday:

As I neared the shoreline I came across one of my favourite wild edibles, Miner's Lettuce, this stuff actually tastes pretty good:

Once on the shore there were a different kind of wild edibles( lots of em !):

Make sure you pick the right ones though !

As I turned over a rock I found this stuff, looks like sweetcorn, anyone know what it really is ?

I then returned home with two dirty dogs !!!!

Hey Pitt
Looks like fun outing. I got a "six pack" of those NATO surplus folders packed in cosmoline just for fun. At least it looks identical to me. I can bludgen a can open with the opener but the marlinspike works pretty good for BSA stuff and the blade holds a decent edge. Never tried to get it really sharp so I dont know anything aboujt the steele- mine are circa '60's. I really like the sheepsfoot shape for rope work.

Yeah not sure about the year of this one buddy !

It is stamped Sheffield England and has ' Boy scouts of Canada' etched on the blade !

My knife is dated 1944, the date is on the can opener. I got it off ebay, it was rusted to buggery but cleaned up reasonably and can be got nice and sharp! Good old carbon steel.

Cool pics Pit, your dog reminds me of my old lab...never could keep him out of the water or the mud lol.

You might try using that marlin spike to make some holes in the bottom of a dead fall for adding some spikes to it to help kill/pin your prey....might work.

That's a good idea bro, I haven't made a deadfall for ages, might give that a go !!!;)

The "hoofy cleaner thing" had me crackin' up.

C'mon pit - gobble up some of that sweet corn and let us know what it tastes like :)

Good pics - I like the one of the ants.

Ants are lovely little creatures~high in potein an low in fat, the taste has a similar effect of REDBULL. carry a piece of bread when you go into the woods and you will be amazed how many ants you can get with it~
