In Re: Custom Shop 110 Ram's Horn Damascus
The knife arrived to day, in perfect shape, thanks to an outstanding job of packing. The pictures do not do justice to it. In person this thing is a real jewel, absolutely beautiful in every way. Thanks Rich for a deal done smooth.
Now the hard part: What do I do with it? By nature, I don’t have safe queens, be they guns, knives or any thing else. But it is going to be very hard to take this one into the field Saturday for opening day of deer season. My rifle will be a mid 50’s Savage 99, and my sidearm will be a P-08 Luger. The knife should be one of my old workers, but I’m leaning toward this beauty. I know that once the first deer is gutted, the rest will be easy, but that first one is going to be a tough do.

That DamRam is truly a beautiful knife!!
To use on not to use? Since you seem to get more pleasure using something as opposed to looking at something...use that knife and take some action photos too.:D

i am a 110 nut and i admit i like safe queens..
in this case all i gots to say is ..

That first scratch is always the hardest. Unless you want us to start calling you a collector, you better use the knife! :)

So, what caliber is the 99? I'd love to find a .250. I have a #1 .25/06 but would like to have the old school 99. I see a lot of 99's at the gun show but never a .250-3000.

Good news and bad news,,, I took the knife out hunting, but no deer. Oh well, the season just started, so there is hope. The gun is 308,,, I do love those 99's, but I ain't no collector :-)

Sorry you didn't get a deer but it sounds like you have some time to do it. I have a Win. Model 99 in .308 but it isn't very accurate. I need to do something with it - maybe a 1x4 scope. I love the lever actions.

I'm betting your Winchester .308 lever action is model 88. The savages are model 99's. Put a 3x9x44 or 3x9x50 scope on it.
We have 3 Win model 88's in the family and one model 99 Savage. They all are among the most accurate shooters.

Was at a small bazaar Saturday with three booths of guns. There was an older Win 88 .308 there that just has the checkering and not the newer oak/acorn cluster checkering. They were asking a nominal $995 for it.

Another table had one in .243 for $700. Hang on to them!!!

My gunsmith friend says to never take down an 88. Is a nightmare to put back together. I saw that in my semi-auto version model 100 Win.

They were stupid proud of the couple of 110's I saw. Way over priced for what they were.

Yes, I have the 88 - it was a typo as I had 99's on my mind and didn't proof my post. I suppose I should keep mine - it is a Pre-64 carbine with pretty fancy wood and checkering. I've been told they didn't make a Pre-64 carbine but I have one and it is a factory carbine. It may have been a special order. I got mine at a gun show for 250 bucks and a boxed Case Pheasant knife, fixed blade from the early 80's.
