At the moment I am waiting on money to get an H&K 14205. I thought I would look up the custom design it came from by Mike Snody. I found it was mostly similar to his "Retaliator." Now here's the question, What about other knives? I can't seem to find the custom knife that McHenry and Williams designed to become the BM710. Any photos of customs that inspired production models? I think it is fascinating how some production knives are so popular due to their custom backgrounds. So post your pics of customs that became production.

Did McHenry & Williams design the 710 or just the AXIS lock? I'm also not sure knives are popular because of their start as a custom? I'm not sure what dictates knife popularity because I have seen some pretty great ones not get much attention while others that are somewhat boring are very popular. Also, what is popular on Bladeforums doesn't always correlate to what sells well overall for a company.

Yup. That was the first design that incorporated the AXIS lock and Benchmade bought the design and lock. Popular or not, I think it's cool. Like the CRKT My Tighe, the customs are way nicer than the production even though the production is great.
