Glad you showed up Gavin! Welcome to blade forums.

Nice work, I especially like the ulu. Good clean lines with what looks like a fairly wide blade. The curvature of the blade is not as drastic as some that I have seen, so should work nicely without having to have a bowl and still get plenty of edge on the board. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Take care and good luck.

Andy

the ulu isnt my style, but that is an AWESOME folder..just ou tof curiousity (

The fit and finish on those knives look especially great. I really like the transition from the blade to the bolster to the handle of the ulu and the blade shape of the folder.

Tom in answer to your question it is pretty sunny most of the time. (I don't know why they call it darkest Africa)

Gavin,

Nice work!

When you get some time, read Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness". It is a great book and will help shed some light on how others view the darkness....

Gavin,

Welcome to BFC!
I read somewhere that "Darkest Africa" came from the time that it was largely unexplored and it was in reference to the light of modern man and the British Empire not having shone on it yet.

Take care and keep away from the Black Mambas,

Jim McCullough...I think I will go dig out some of my Peter Hathaway Capstick books now.

Next time you feel your life is sooo tough, read this- Some American Heroes

Good to see you on BladeForums Gavin, I hope you benefit from the discussions as much as I have.

We've got tremendously talented knifemakers in South Africa and whilst we might be 8000 miles from the USA the Net shortens that gap dramatically! With our current exchange rate of R8 to $1 it makes SA custom knives the best buys in town!

Good luck.

Nice to hear from you. I've just started on blade forums and already the response in great. missed seeing you at the Guild Show , did you attend?

Gavin . . . I attended the KGSA Show at Gold Reef City . . . excellent exhibition, very high standard of work, lots of new talent and innovative ideas. It was the Guild's 20th show and I think they can be very proud of what they have achieved in terms of knifemaker development and standards of workmanship.

What really pleases me though is to see the number of South African knifemakers who are breaking out into the international market, attending shows in Japan, Europe, Australia, and the US, and giving themselves exposure through the Internet portals.

Regards, HILTON

Gorgeous knives Gavin, amazing craftsmanship!!!

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
