Folks,

Going from NYC to the Bahamas. What sorts of knives are safe to bring in my checked, say again checked, baggage? Any problem with folders? What blades are legal in the Bahamas? Figure to bring dive knives and shears as I expect to dive.

Thanks - Alan

To carry around down there, I would suggest nothing more ferocious than a SAK or an Opinel.

Well, I went to Atlantis when I was there, and it was very humid. Bring something stainless (SAK). Also, you tend to get wet even when you don't plan on it. I didn't find that I needed the knife, maybe once or twice, so even a keychain SAK would work for your EDC if that's where you're going.

Oh, laws! No, I don't think they pat down the tourists :D I'm just saying it doesn't seem like a place you'd need anything heavy duty. Or want to carry much weight.

Ah, this grasshopper now understands. The old titanium wakazahi trick. :D

Will let you know how it goes.

SAKs are always good. Maybe spyderco SALT bearing in mind all the humidity and salt water....

Take something you wouldn't mind losing. They are under British law and it's a bit funky to say the least. Also open to personal interpretation by the local cops. Cheap is the word here.

Hey Alan,

I'll be glad to tell ya if you bring me with you on an all-expenses paid vacation! :D

I'll even carry your knives for ya! :D

Folks,

Had no hassle with any knives in Nassau.

Several divers admired my Larry Ramey thick titanium Seal. Liked the size and the no frills look. Fits well in a BC pocket.

Brian, mon vieux, be grateful that you did not have to cope with Frances, and presumably won't have to cope with Ivan. Frances even got us in NYC. Flooded the subways. Rain in an IRT station is a trip. :D
