A friend just got back from Russia and brought me a gift, a switch blade knife! Works pretty good, steel took a very good edge, the clip which you can't see here, is close to the knife and doesn't interfere with the grip.
All in all, not bad for $6 !

Blade is 3 3/8" long

I wondered who was copied, on the blade it says XingWen

Are you sure the knife was made in Russia? "XingWen" is Chinese, and this knife was probably made in China, a purely Chinese product )))))

There are really beautiful knives made in Russia, such as these:

Of course, these are not EDCs ))), just art.

But speaking about ordinary Russian knives, even cheap and simple ones will not have Chinese words on it, so your friend probably bought you a "From China through Russia with steel" :D

Never said it was made in Russia, just that it arrived from Russia via a friend that just got back, with a name like that, I'm sure it was made in China, but surprisingly a solid knife!

Yo Gary,

can't wait to see the sheath you are going to make for that puppy. :)

Cheers. c.j.g.

Gary, are you going to use it?
If so I'd enjoy hearing how it holds up.
Lovely looking knife.

Speaking about Chinese knives... my friend bought a knife for... about 3 dollars, an automatic model... It's been a couple of years, and the knife is still in good condition. No backlash, not even a single problem. Miracles happen :)

It's going to be my kick around work knife, used it a little today, sharpened some pencils, opened a box, nothing major, edge still fairly sharp.

I was surprised at the ruggedness of the knife at that price, he is going to bring back a few more next time and sell them for $20, not bad for a nice auto!

Now the image was taken using my new Fuji S5000, hand held shot, I thought it was pretty cool pic and wanted to share that as well, how do you guys like that shot? I have the knife balanced on a mallet I use to hammer with, and have a sheet of paper angled at the bottom to reflect light back up onto the knife.

I think this guys have a good representation of Russian knives:

Here for example the price is last line - rate is about 30 rubles for dollar

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. You may notice that some knives does not have guard - battle grade knives still illegal in Russia, so they have to be like this because of this law.

A good shot, very artistic )) IMHO, could be a little bit larger, maybe with higher resolution for a detailed view.

Well when I click on the image, it pretty much spans my screen, but then I'm very very new to the digital camera stuff, lovin' it though!

Here is a shot of a folder made by Ray Covers, a very sweet knife by the way!!!

I'll be getting a full length shot soon but this will give you a taste of the this folder, he is quite a maker! Not my knife, but a friend that sent it in for a visit.

Agree!)) I like it (at least the part that's visible on the photo)

By the way, this is an example of a high-res photo: the letters on the blade can be easily read, all lines are smooth. When making a photo of a knife next time, try to set the resolution of 1024x768, maybe even more. The photo will be a lot larger in kilobytes, but it will be much better in quality.

Oups, it is not a high-res photo )) I've just noticed, it's probably that you're just holding the camera closer to the knife... but if you make a photo in 1024x768 or more, it should be of the same quality even if you make a full-length photo

It is reduced a lot in order to post the image, not sure how to do otherwise?

I like the composition quite a bit.
I like dark backgrounds. Allows more contrast subject to back..Innovative draping and balancing on the "stage"
I would lighten it a bit to bring out more definition either thru software or more light bounce. I prefer the top of the blade to be lighter and the Scales also
It is a pic to be proud of.

Does the bladeforums have limitations of the attachment size?
Yes there is limit. (what a sentence) sheesh...
That's why I like to post pics instead of the attachments. Tho dial up etiquette has me reducing the pic. It still gives better quality than the attachments.
I use photobucket.com and contribute to keep their site up.
It's reliable and easy to use and supplies cut/paste links for the pics.

Same here :))) I just upload the pix I want to paste to my personal page, that is not really a page... just a dump for avatars and pix.
