Today has been very thought provoking; I cannot begin to describe what is going through my head at the moment. I have much more to say than what is here so far, but I cannot find a way to put my thought into words.
Lately, there has been a surge of paying it forward on the forum it seems and I have just become a recipient of that kindness that this forum is known for.
Five days ago, I received an e-mail from a fellow member (I won't say unless he is comfortable) asking for my address because he had something for me. I was somewhat apprehensive for some reason, but my curiosity led to me to provide my address; I was assuming that it was...well...I do not know what I thought it would be, to be honest, I can say that I felt somewhat greedy and selfish sending my address to someone whom I have never met for something I would receive in the mail.
Not only this, but I was expecting another package of free goods from another kind member (again, I won't say out of respect) of spare SAK parts; to say the least I feel like a mooch at this point...
Fast forward to this morning-my little sister sees the mailman depositing envelopes into the boxes and she sprints out of the front door. She comes in holding a fairly hefty stack of mail. My mother held up two envelopes for me-one I was expecting (the SAK parts), and another all the way from Switzerland.
Out loud, I muttered' "That can't be right."
I pulled out my SBJ and opened her up and slid out a paper-wrapped item and a hand-written note.
"This cannot be..."
When I unraveled the paper, I grew silent.
This is what sat in the crinkled white paper:
I sunk into my chair and read the note enclosed inside (I can take down the note if you would like me to):
A man, bought, cleaned, sharpened and shipped a knife to a person halfway across the world because he noticed that I took a liking to these knives. He did all of this, took his own spare time, to perform a random act of kindness...the edge on the blade can shave the thin hairs on my arm with no problem, I do not think you give yourself enough credit my friend.
This is what it means to pay it forward. This is what it means to be kind. This is what this forum is all about, and I am humbled to be able to share these experiences with you all. It looks like it's my turn pay it forward; I have some work to do.
No matter how little you paid, or how easy the cleaning may have been, this gesture means the world to me. This little guy is going right in my pocket, no questions...It is really funny, I think that I have finally found a knife that I am content with; a grail knife of sorts. I think that the culmination of the character of the blade, character of the man whom gave it to me and the circumstances of which I received this have made it so special for me. I think that this will be 'my knife'; the one that you are known for carrying (my grandpa carries a Cadet, my uncle a Leatherman Wave, etc...).
Thank you again for all you have done for me.
I hope to return the favor one day.
I wish you and the rest of the forum the best of wishes.
Have a wonderful day guys, I just wanted to share,
-Jim

Here is a pic of the package contents of both members. Thank both of you so much, I can't wait until I get my giveaway planned out.
Gotta love my SAK's
