My current knives

From the top,

1) From Sweden: Frosts of Mora Clipper, military green. An absolute steal at the price. Shaving sharp out of the box.

2) From Norway: Brusletto Falcon. 12C27 steel seems to put up with anything I can throw at it including cutting turf

3) From Norway: Brusletto Spikke. Nice little whittling/carving knife, good for the finer detail.

4) From England: Handmade by me using the stock-reduction method. Tempered and oil-quenched. Polished carbon steel blade, English Oak handle.

5) From Finland: IIsakki Traditional Pukko 5226, polished high-carbon steel.

6) From Japan: Tak Fukuta Hunter II in ATS 34.

The Clipper is the knife I use for work most of the time and despite my best efforts and the colour (I also use it hunting) I havent managed to lose it yet. Its a very good whittling knife too.

The Falcon has a short, stubby, thick blade. You can get a fabulous edge on the 12C27 steel (I use a Gatco sharpening system) but in terms of design it isnt my favourite for some reason.

The Spikke is good for fine detailed carving towards the end of the job but to make a bit of progress something a bit bigger is called for.

This was my first attempt at a knife of any sort from scratch. It really opened my eyes as to how much work is actually involved in producing a handmade knife from scratch. It also taught me that it isnt impossible, with the right tools, to make a usable and half-decent looking bit of kit.

The Pukko is probably my all-round favourite. Yes, I just love the BladeTac Hunter below but its just too precious a work of art.... The Pukko feels great in the hand and is held snug and secure in the sheath when not in use. I was concerned about the lack of finger guard at first but have never had a problem in use. Its great at everything I do with it.

The Tak Fukuta Hunter II with ATS34 blade and quince handle simply takes your breath away with its elegance and beauty. When I'm choosing which one is going on the belt for the day, I always look at it and say "maybe tomorrow". Its gorgeous. I love it like my first born. Damn it I just dont want to spoil it by using it. I have to get over this bit!

nice. I like 2, 4 and 6 best. If I had to choose one, it'd be number 4 (and I hadn't read that it was homemade when I made that choice).
