I got this email today fro John Shelby, who won this years project. He wants me to forward it to all of the participants, but I also want to share it here.

John,

It is still hard to believe that I won that fantastic knife!!!!!! Like we talked last week, I would just like for everyone involved in this endeavor to know what a great job they did and how perfect the final product was. If you could, please pass my “ thank you” on to all….

Gentlemen,

I personally want to thank all of you for the part that you did in crafting this true masterpiece. The work you did is flawless and I now understand what being a MASTERSMITH means. Your creation will be cherished by me for years to come, hopefully and will then be passed on to my son to enjoy and then….. I have enjoyed showing it to friends and fellow workers and they all think it is awesome and I think they are somewhat envious of my good fortune.

Again, thanks to all for the giving of your time and talents to help raise money for this worthwhile project.

Thanks for this, John! (Both of you!)

I echo his sentiments. I could not believe how well made it was.

John told me he and Layla did a 'dry run' picking a ticket to see how it would go hours before the actual draw. Damned if I didn't get picked for the faux drawing. Cranky.

I am pleased the new curator has such pride in it. It deserves such.

It is a beautiful knife. It's great to see that such a nice guy won it and the amount of effort all of your put into it. It's truly admirable.

Having been out of town a bit, I just saw this post and must say that I am very proud to have been unvolved with this worthwhile project. I think the the other MS craftsmen did a simply wonderful job at making this piece go together as it did.

Other than the fact that we all knew that it was going to be a Bowie knife, there was no design laid out. Each individual did his work and then passed off to the next guy to put his own personal spin on it. That, IMO, is what made it so fun to do. Each completed step was a transformation.

To Mr. Shelby (from my home state of Illinois. :-)), I'm glad you like it!

Cheers,
