I bought the Fromm Strop in a quick haste without researching the different strops available for sharpening convex fixed blades.
I should be receiving it in the next week or so. Is it still ok to strop a convex blade on this particular type of strop. I also bought the Fromm conditioner. Do I need the green compound or will this strop and the conditioner suffice.

From my quick Google, it appears to be a hanging strop? Like this?

It should work like any other piece of leather? If your doing convex edges, I would lay it on a table or something and strop like normal for convex edges!

I wonder if the conditioner will be enough too or should I add the green compound. I appreciate the reply.

I have no idea what the "conditioner" might be? Leather conditioner? Compound? Try it and let us know! And you're welcome!

My barber has something that looks a whole lot like one of those hanging off his chair. One side is canvas, one side is leather, and that thing is ancient.

I'm no expert, but as far as I know, strops like those are not meant to be used with stropping compounds. IIRC, they're conditioned to work without additives or compounds.

Hopefully an expert can chime up and say one way or another, but I'd hold off using compounds with it for the time being.

dorito monk has a good point. till the late 70s ever barber chair had a strop hanging. the canvas was for honing & the leather was for stropping the final razor edge. you can certainly do your edges a favor by regular stropping. as to mirror polished edges you may want to go with diamond sprays or diamond pastes.before adding anything to strop do as dorito says & get your technique established.
