Hello,
I had the good fortune to meet Lucas Bullington of Lucas Forge at a fiddler's convention here in north Alabama. He is very friendly and he had a table full of very nice handmade knives. I also picked up this little knife from him. He calls this knife the Cub. It is 6" overall and this one comes with a sheath set up for neck carry but I tossed the paracord and stuck it in my front pocket. It rides perfectly for my short daily hikes and is perfect for around the shop tasks. I like the Izulas and all but this is easier on the eyes for sure. I am usually a diehard traditional folder carrier and maker but this little knife got me thinking about making my own version. Here are a few pics of the Lucas Forge cub knife in O1 with pecan scales and my little knife in 1075 with ebony scales. The blade is inspired by a Bose Zulu Spear It is far from finished but I hope you enjoy seeing both of these knives.

Thank you and have a great day,
Nathan

The Lucas Forge is easy on the eyes! I like the lines of that knife. Your little front pocket is going to be sweet!! I want to see the finished product. Thanks for sharing these knives, Nathan!!

That's a beauty. Love the pecan scales, I can't remember seeing pecan as a common handle material. As an aside, it IS an exceptional BBQ wood... especially with pork. :D

.

Two nice looking knives for sure. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics of your own knife Nathan, well done

I like both the knives very much.

As for the Lucas, O1 steel is a favorite, the lines and size are great, and good leather always helps! Lots of nice details there.).

I also join others in looking forward to your finished knife.

Thank you all. I look forward to finishing it and then making my first sheath.... I will post pics as it progresses.
Take care and enjoy the weekend.

Hello again...

Well I finished my little fixed blade knife and was able to snap a few pics. I did not have alot of time to to sand, sand and sand some more so I chose to play around with the finish and see what happened. I am very happy with the way the scales turned out and I like the blade and finish. I still have some learning to do regarding blade grinding but we all start somewhere.

The finish on the knife is 400 grit then scotchbrite. I then media blasted with a course media. Then into the etch tube for several cycles. I was pretty happy with the look but I had one thing left to try. I put the edgeless knife in my ceramic media container and shook until I was tired of shaking and the noise.

I then peened and finished the ebony and put a nice edge on it. I think it turned out ok. It fits the hand nicely and I cut with it and the finish is holding up well so far.
Let me know what you think. Next up is the sheath.

Thank you for you comments both good and otherwise.
Nathan

I like it. I am searching for a fixed blade knife for pocket carry and yours looks great. The finish and the handle go great together. Well done!

Hello again. After moving and other obstacles to knifemaking were pushed aside, I was finally able to try my hand at sheath making. It is not even dry yet but I wanted to post some pics for feedback. Let me know if you like the idea and/or the construction. Keep in mind that this is my first leatherwork and I have lots to learn to polish the rough edges. This sheath is meant to fit in the front pocket. I will make one here in the near future that has a belt loop. My main focus was to keep this slim and trim. I will post more pics when it is dry and treated...

Thank you,
Nathan

Truly inspirational. I am getting a Böker Fitz today for a front pocket fixed blade, the stag handle model. Yes, I know it is made in China, but some of the reviews have been positive so I took the chance.

If carrying and using it proves to be a positive experience I might get something more classy. I have used a small Roselli puukko as my pocket fixed blade. It is a bit bulky for this application, but a very usefull knife.

Edit: so if it was not clear, I like what you have done very, very much :)

I am liking the look on both of those. Well done!

Both are very nice knives. Nice score and nice work. I've been drawn to pocket fixed blades for hikes as well. A slippy(SAK) and an izula 2 are light and ride really well when you're on the move. Yours are definitely a lot classier though. :D

Very Nice work
