Got an email with pics from my friend and booth-mate from the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot who loves to hunt wild hogs with a knife. Previously he had gotten a CS Boar Hunter and sent pics that I posted here as well. Loved the BH, but his son now uses it and at last Spring's Creek, he got a Frontier Bowie specifically for hog hunting. Here are the results and his comments. Also sent a pic of one of his friends that used a CS Spear to get his hog. Enjoy!

"Here is a pic of the Frontier bowie and a 73 year old man with a cold steel spear with his dead hog.

The frontier bowie is the best hog knife I have used yet. It killed the hog so fast that it almost took the fun out of it.

I attached a pic of the heart also"

Here's a picture from his 2012 hunt, where he used the CS Boar Hunter (now called the Boar Collector). He gave the knife to his son to use in 2013, but was dissatisfied with the one he chose for himself that year, so for this year's hunt (2014), he opted for the Frontier Bowie. Moral of the story is: stick with Cold Steel for serious work.

I love seeing these blades being put to this kind of work. Good looking out Mike, I'm curious though as to what was disappointing about the performance of the boarhunter? I could see the frontier bowie or any of the bowies, even the machete being superior for this task then most any other blade on CS's lineup.

Nothing was disappointing about the Boar Hunter! Re-read post. Chip used the Boar Hunter in 2012, loved the way it performed and gave it to his son to use in 2013. If he was disappointed, he would not have given it to his son. He chose a different brand knife for himself to use in 2013, and that is the one that disappointed him! We share the same booth/pod at the Knob Creek Creek Machine Gun Shoot (he sells Benchmade) and because of his success with the Boar Hunter, he wanted Cold Steel and decided on the Frontier Bowie, which was not yet available when he got his Boar Hunter. Both the Boar Hunter/Collector and the Frontier Bowie are excellent knives to use for hunting boar, with the Frontier's massive blade getting the nod in performance. Can't lose using either one.

Cool post. I'm no blood and guts worshiper, but if you've ever been out hunting, this is reality. We are only about a hundred years removed from commonly butchering our own meat. Animals get killed, cut up, and we eat them. The pics are a good reminder that meat doesn't grow in plastic trays.

i like my recon scout in san mai for killing...nice post
i have used the cold steel spears on them too. the short assegai is as dangerous as a 12 gauge imo...
