All I wished for was a Frontier Powderhorn shield. What I got from Phil was a mint shield attached to a mint Frontier 4322 Ivory Delrin 3-7/8" Trapper, what Frontier then called a Dogleg Jack, still in the original 4322 box and plastic sleeve!! I know Frontier called it a Dog Leg from reading about this specific knife in the full color glossy copy of the 1977 Frontier Catalog that Phil enclosed with the knife. What I got was a veritable Frontier Collector's starter kit!! AND I DIDN'T EVEN RUB THE LAMP! Very hard for a stingy SOB like me to accept that anyone can be so generous... a word that doesn't really describle the kindness. I have a feeling this is gonna make me a better person.... After I first asked about the shield, and Phil simply responded, "send me your address," I sheepishly wrote to him that I kind of expected to pay or trade for the shield if anyone had one. His response was, "No payment is necessay. The Schrade Collectors at bfc have a tradition of generousity, freely sharing information and little things like this." Yeah... "little things like this!!" As I told him in my next e-mail, I only hope I get the opportunity to repay the generosity here on the forum sometime. Now I'm just chomping at the bit to find someone here who needs something I have!! The treasure trove is below:

Now I'm a 2-knife Frontier Collector!!

Phil, I just can't thank you enough. I'd say, I owe you one, but I already know with you it's not about that. But I do appreciate it and anxiously await my chance to carry on the "tradition of generosity."
Regards all,
Barry

Time to post my story.

A long, long time ago, on a forum far, far away, a member joined with the screen name of gr8scout (or something along those lines). In his attempt to get other knife enthusiasts to come forward he asked if any of the sportsmen (and women) of the board if had any kids involved with hunting, fishing, or any other outdoor activities. As a regular on that board I stepped forward. Gr8scout simply asked for a mailing address.

Days later an Imperial Frontier 442 Drop Point Hunter and a Stockman Model 4434 arrived. Fit, finish and overall quality were astounding. A seed was planted and the quest was on. Unfortunately, work and other tasks took much of my time and the hunt slowed.

A couple years later, while sorting through the knife drawer, the spark was rekindled. I posted a simple question about Imperial Frontier knives and a member offered some literature on Frontier knives to help in my search for what I thought to be the Holy Grail of knifedom. Of course we know Imperials are not high end collecter items but the allure is undeniable.

Days later, the mail arrived. Along with the sale brochures was a gift. A jiged bone mini Stockman in unused/unsharpened condition.

What could I have ever done to deserve such a gift? Perhaps it was an act of pure unselfishness in a previous life.

Not long after, a post was made by gr8scout in regards to a display item that needed some work.

A-Ha! Heres my chance! A chance to join in the generosity that is the Schrade Collector forum!

A short time at work and a little elbow grease and my debt to the the gr8scout was almost repaid! [notice I said almost ]. I'm still in his debt.

Of course, by this time, you've figured out that gr8scout is, in fact, our very own Phil. A man who's generosity knows no bounds. One of these days I'll make the trek north-by-north-west to see his collection and shake the man's hand. He is a true gentleman and I hope to stir the soul of future knife enthusiasts the way he has.

Thank you Phil. You are a generous and gracious friend.

Any time you're up for some fishing, just drop me a line and I'll have the little grumman gassed up and the Imperial 442 ready to prepare those perch and crappie for the pan!

Chris

PS. NAfix, if the opportunity to pay the man back never comes, don't worry. Do what I hope to do. Pass it forward!
In that, I mean show others the generosity that was given to you and me. Pass a knife along to someone that you feel has a true desire to learn or that you feel will benefit from a simple gesture. No one ever lost a minute of sleep over their own generosity.

I don't know Phil, never had dealings with him. But you don't have to know someone to respect them, just listen to what others have to say.
From what I see, it goes beyond being a "good guy", it's the type of person, that when you get to know them, you will do anything for them, because they will do anything for you, without even knowing you.

Glad I caught this thread early this morning. Blush.

Generosity is a trait, or a hallmark of the Schrade Collectors Forum here at BFC. Let's go back to Del and the hurricane relief effort. Let's talk LT and his 'for free' and dead on appraisals here of the older Schrades, of the information he freely gives us, how he has invited strangers to his home to admire what is probably the largest private collection of Schrades in the world.

We should mention Chris himself and Dale, who are both generously helping me with a tobacco product/Imperial Schrade display I am doing. We must inlcude Codger, always with informative rants and priceless facts. And Larry, and all of you that give of yourselves, items of steel or more important your friendship and comradery.

Generousity was a trait of Schrade as well, as LT has illustrated with the knives they donated to their host town.

Let's all just slap ourselves on the back today, huh? I know I have missed mentioning deserving members. We're a pretty decent bunch of guys. We represent Schrade well here, I think.

The nice thing about Phil and his generosity is that it is contagious. It is because of the willingness to share by Phil, LT, Codger, Larry, Paul (sheathmaker) and many others that generosity and sharing is the hallmark of the Schrade forum.

Thanks to everyone for making this forum the best place on the net!

I couldn't have said it better

And then there's this guy Glenn, who sent me a German punch jack, out of the blue, to add to my Harness Jack collection. Badd guy!
