No half measures. Them or me. To the death.

Seriously, the short road flares are my best treatment v underground varmints. They fit into the tunnels, light easy and can be heard burning when buried. Critters 0.

I incorporated my tools into a knife photo for your amusement. Recent production Frontiersman 124. One of my favorites.

I don't actually fire the flare pistol, goes off like a 12ga and the angry flare can bounce along the ground heading off at terrific velocity to who knows where. Just a prop.

Very Awesome!

So you draw them out with the flare and bonk em on the head with the 124?

Great Pics Oregon!

Thank you for the kind words. I really enjoy everyone's photos so I figure that I had better add to the pile of pics. I had all this stuff laying around so I thought that I would put it together for a few photos.

Thank you.

I've tried traps, gas & a match, shot gun, splitting maul, piped car exhaust, water, gopher sulfur and now road flares. I am probably just ruining their day so they move away for a while. The 124 is for skinning time! :)

I see you are bringing out the big guns to get those gophers!
You must have some giant gophers up there, if you need a 124 to skin them! :D  ;)

Good photos. I can't believe how green it is there. DM

The rain falls every day. Notice in the last photo that the barbeque is over by the door so I can keep pretty dry while I burn the meat. I was three years old when I moved to Oregon so the rules have changed some but I think now you must first demonstrate Ark building skill in order to move into this neck of the woods. Yes. Its a fact. :)

Awsome knife, love the Frontiersman, I just don't have one yet unfortunately :/

They were hard baby hard to get when I started looking since they had been out of production for many years. You had to pay real dough back in the day a few years ago. Now, with production of the Frontiersman once again, you simply buy one when you are ready and at a stellar price. You don't have to make a bargain with a collector these days. Thank you Buck for bringing them back. The off and on again finnigan factor of some of the Buck models makes me want to get a set of the cocobolo/brass/burgundy sheath models out this year like the 102, 103, 105, 118, 119 and the 120 before they are all in the tight gripping hands of collectors.

You skin one, leaving a gutpile in the yard, and it takes the starch out of the rest of em. Anyway, they have a mean disposition, not to mention huge sharp teeth, when they pop out of the ground with their hair on fire!

The little buggers are a pain in our gardens..... and so are the darn ground squirrels and bunnys.....

Fun to watch revenge video of mole launching device in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDEira01c0Q

The short road flares seem to be working for me and I've been at this for decades. I won't use them when fire danger is present like it is now in your neck of the woods unless I take steps to suppress any fire. My procedure: open the hole, insert lit flare and bury it.
