I picked up this old Frost Cutlery "Flying Falcon" pocketknife at a thrift shop for $1. The blade is lose as a goose when fully opened. It's dirty but could be cleaned up easily enough.

Any recommendations on how to tighten it up, or did my dollar just fly away?

Thanks!

Is that knife liner-less? If so, the crack under the pivot pin may be the cause of the play, in which case you'll have to either repair the crack or replace the cover material. Ordinarily, and assuming the play is side to side, with the blade closed, insert the area around the pivot pin into a padded vice or clamp. Tighten up the vice or clamp, and that should have removed the play (you might have to try it a couple of times to get it right). As its tightened things up though, the pin will be sticking out slightly more than it was before, so with a small hammer, carefully hit the ends of the pin to flatten them a little. Hopefully that should fix it

There is a brass liner in there. I'll try using a padded vise, just wanted to make sure my instincts were correct.

Thanks for the tips. :)
