Looking for a very economical general utility knife. I have the Frosts More in mind. Anyone out there with some feedback on the knifes performance? I'm also curious about the sheath. Does the knife sit securely in it?

I generally prefer natural materials, but this is to be used hard..... Other recommendations welcome.

You can't go wrong with a Frosts. I've got a couple of them and for the last several years it has been my main fixed blade. I took one of the wood handle ones with the carbon laminated blade, and built a leather pukko sheath around the plastic sleave sheath for asthetics. I've used that little blade from everything to dressing out my deer to whittling hot dog sticks for the grandkids on campouts. The plastic handle ones make great fish and game knives and boat knives. My wife, Karen, likes things a little colorfull so she has the clipper in green and another in blue.

Nobody can abuse a knife like a woman, and she has'nt killed hers yet. And she's done some pretty dumb things with hers.

As I'm mostly into traditional folders, I use the Frosts for everything outdoors. If the Frosts won't handle it, then I use my 12 inch Ontario machete. So far I have'nt need the machete too often.

i like my clipper. i have one in my edc backpack that i use for a beater. i've used it pretty hard with no complaints. used it while hiking and on the farm, and recently cut some root bound plants out of containers. the handle is pretty comfy and slip resistant. as for the sheath, the knife clicks in and is secure enough i suppose. i like really good retention on my sheaths but that's me, and you can't expect too much for the $10-12 clippers cost.

They are worth every penny and the sheath is fairly secure as far as retention. Not too good for belt carry in my opinion. I have both the carbon steel and stainless versions and the edge holding seems to be about the same for both. I actually prefer the stainless for the ease of maintenance but both are a great value. Smoky Mountain knifeworks has both types.

I have a clipper in carbon steel, absolutely love it. It's my fillet knife and dirty job "beater" for 10.00 bucks it can't be topped!

Thanks to all that replied. I couldn't decide between the Clipper and the original # 1. At $8.85 and $10.00 respectivly..... I bought both. :D

Cyblade, thanks for the link. I'm going to order one for the clipper for sure. I think I will make a leather sheath for the #1.

My only complaint with my Frosts is the sheaths, which I recently rectified by placing an order with Eric for one of his fine sheaths for each of my Frosts (Clipper & 700). I also ordered the new triflex version 700 from Ragweed to try out as well...

I love my carbon steel clipper, I use it mainly for cleaning fish and the textured grip is great when your hands are slick.

Sheath has very positive retention to me.
