Picked up the version 2 folder a few weeks back and truth be told I LIKE IT! Absolutely stellar build quality and lock up and just all around a nice folder. Now here is the problem, I am having a devil of a time getting the blade to stay sharp and to sharpen up properly. It will get decently sharp but seems to loose the bite rather quickly. Beats me what's going on with it. I have used my Smith's sharpener and my Lansky and free hand. Edge looks excellent and am wondering if it is to thick. Anyways anyone else have this problem. My Flarehty folders are like straight razors with much use. Thanks for any input and keepem sharp

It's D2 right? probably a pain to work with. Do you have a relief bevel? And if you do, what angle is it at?

I don't know about the 2.0 but the blade was very thick at the edge on the earlier run. Like a busse. Strong but hard to sharpen/not a slicer.

I also have the 2.0 and it came with an unimpressive edge. But 20 minutes of patience on the Sharpmaker turned it into a razor. Literally. The back of my left hand is as smooth as my skull. :D (I wear my hair much the same as Kojak).

Just got my 2.0 a few days ago and haven't had a chance to put my own edge on it yet. But I did have a 1.0 that I rebeveled/sharpened before carrying: it took and held an excellent edge without any issues. As already mentioned, though, it is pretty thick behind the edge, so it took a decent amount of time and metal removal to take it down to a 30° inclusive edge.

I took it to some 120 grit sandpaper over leather backing and laid it almost flat to knock the shoulders off, working up a burr on both sides. Then i finished it up on stones to the the spyderco uf and some stropping w/ compound. Fixed it right up.

Thanks folks. Well I don't know it just isn't getting sharp like D2 ought to. I've used a 22 deg and 19 deg angle on the Smiths sharpener. I've tried sharpening on a large bench stone, a bit finer than med. grit but not fine grit, and this is a big heavy stone and what use to sharpen most of my f.b.'s on and it works the nuts for those. Depending on pressure etc. used you can get a very toothy edge or going further a nicely polished razor edge. I don't know maybe off to ebay with it. It is just kind of pissin me off I can't get this thing as sharp as it should get. So there ya go. thnaks and keepem sharp

Richard has made an offer I can't refuse! So it will go off to him for his input etc.etc. Like I told him in an email, this is supposed to be a "survival" type of folder and to me if ya can't sharpen it expeditiously in the field what use is it as such. Now I've had a few tough nuts to crack when sharpening before but this knife seems to get sharp, sort of, and then quickly looses whatever sharpness is felt. Now I will say this although it will scrape hair decently and slice newspaper easily on an angle it just does not have the bite one would expect from D2.

I also have an older Mike Mann hunter from the mid 90's in forged 52100 that is a bear to sharpen or was at least. However with time and effort on the large stone it now has a very very sharp hard edge on it that not only will last but is down right scary. And truth be told this knife took me a couple of hours of effort but the results are worth it. Something only a knife nut could understand I suppose. Ok thanks and keepem sharp
