I just happened to look at knifekits.com and noticed they have a cordwrapped knife with AUS 8 steel for $50, and then it hit me that you could do this with just about any knife and have a nice knife that will satisfy any frugal soul. Has anyone done this, OR does anyone have any interesting stories about the frugal knives they carry. Just wondering. Thanks.

I'm planning on picking up an Old Hickory knife from a local hardware store, and sprucing it up a bit. I figure you can't get more frugal than that;)

A similiar idea that I am sure has already been thrown out is to cord wrap a Camillus ArcLite. About $20 plus some paracord, or even better yet I got one for free at a knife show for renewing one of my magazine subscriptions.

I carry an AG Russell Hunter's Scalpel. Not as frugal as an Old Hickory, but it comes with a cord.

Frugal machete. Found the blade, cut a handle out of rough lumber, and did a sloppy-ass job of glueing a cord around the wood.
