Alright, does anyone else get frustrated when you hand a friend/family member an amazing knife to look at or use and they kindly say “that’s nice” and quickly hand it back to you?

I handed my brother one of my grail knives, Rockstead Hizen DLC, he glanced at it, didn’t even try to open and close it and handed it right back with a haphazard “nice”. Total viewing time, about 6 seconds. Same response when I handed him my CKF Evo 2.0. Dude, can you please stop and appreciate the craftsmanship, the extreme tolerances achieved, the design, the crazy 100% flawless mirrored DLC blade, anything?????

I don’t expect others to be knife nerds/addicts like I am but I’ll stop and stare to appreciate a really nice sports car in a parking lot even though I don’t know all the details that make it so special. Does it go A to B like a Camry, yep, is it in another universe comparison wise, YES!!! How about just a little more appreciation!!!!! Just a smidge please, LOL.

Who’s got a similar story and do wish almost wish you didn’t show it at all given the response you received? What was the knife?

It's this damn cell phone age, many people have almost zero attention span and are also desensitized to beauty due to constant exposure to the pornographization of all things. Also, he doesn't sound very self aware, if he knows you like knives and chose to give you a lackluster reaction that is just rude. Don't waste them on family post them here! ;)

Agree with Owen, unfortunately we are definitely in a minority when it comes to appreciating the meticulous attention and detail that goes into our hobby. Sad but even the guys I work with when you throw out a name like Hinderer, Medford etc…they have no clue. Buck, Case for sure and when you mention custom, many automatically assume Benchmade.

It's hard to get mad at somebody for not appreciating value when I do that myself. I can't get all worked up over the many cross stitch patterns my wife gushes over enthusiastically. I have friends that are sports nuts, I could care less. That's why I come here, this place appreciates something I also appreciate. If anyone wants to go in for a four hour quilting bee that's great but I'm gonna take a pass on that.

Yeah many don't know jack when it comes to knives and cannot appreciate the quality when it comes to an expensive blade. Shown a couple of mine and did not get much of a reaction after explaining the steel and build quality. Might have just shown them to the wall. Not everyone is into knives like us but they are missing out on a lot. LOL

The few people I’d care to show actually appreciate the hobby as much as I do so I lucked out there.
I have surprised the hell out of a few people by commenting on the make of blade they’re carrying based on the clip and/or top of the knife in their pocket or on their belt.(Sebenzas, Spydercos, TOPS, Bucks and Benchmades spotted in the wild)

Some people... OH MY GOD... wait for it!

Just don't care.. If it doesn't have a meaningful impact in their life.. why should they care?

Well, I have a good friend that got into collecting old coins. I could not care less about old coins but he’s my friend and wait for it… we sat in his basement for about an hour talking about his coins because… wait for it …. he’s my friend. LOL. I tried to appreciate the rarity and the history he was trying to explain to me.

This happens to me all the time. I don’t have anyone in my life that is interested in knives 😢
Y’all are about the only people I can really talk about knives with. (I mean I can talk to other people about knives but everything I say goes over there head)
