Let's cut the seller some slack guys. He did say "asking" after all. In my book that is an invitation to make offers. Free markets are beautiful things. The market price is classically defined as the price at which a seller under no compulsion to sell will part with his goods to a buyer under no compulsion to buy. A seller can ask whatever he wants. None of us is forced to buy but someone may want it enough to pay up to where a deal is made. Happens everywhere every day. There aren't a lot of CQC5s, and nobody needs one to get through the day. They are rare and thus are able to command a high price to those who would own them. Again, no one is being forced to buy it. So if the ask is high, you can always, like a gentleman, pass. Can't fault a seller for asking though. My 2 cents.

Agreed guys. It's not good form to "poo-poo" on someone's "For Sale" post.

As to his price being outlandish, I can remember way back (in June) when I scoffed at a CQC6 I saw for sale for the Princely sum of $1100.

I your not interested, don't buy. If you have specific questions, post or e-mail.

Let's get the forum back to it's civil roots.

Respectfully,

John

I started this, and I apologize to everybody. I was just honestly stunned. I am, however, all for anybody asking, and getting, what they can.

Again, my apologies.

Sorry, but I'm not going to apologize for my "ripoff" comments. No one has to buy if they don't want to. Those who don't have experience with Emerson custom knives do visit this forum to learn about them, including what's a fair price. When I see a price that appears to be motivated by greed I'm going to comment on it.

As for prices charged, payed, etc. a knife is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. i have overpaid for knives and underpaid for knives, the key is to be in the right place at the right time!
We all know that originally one could purchase emerson knives with no wait for Ernies list prices, since he stopped taking orders for customes I have had no fewer than 200 contacts for all sorts of emerson knives, some buying, some selling, some trading. Believe me, there are people who would give their eye teeth to have the opportunity to purchase a custom emerson (especially CQC-5's) at any price. So may the buyer beware!!!

Hmmm, interesting comment.

So if the person who purchased the CQC5 posts that they are the lucky owner, would they be ragged on for driving up the market price? IF that person paid the asking price obviously...

BTW, it wasn't me. A month from now however it could have been, and I for one wouldn't have sat still for a lot of griping. I agree with Dave Ellis....
