PRICE DROPPED!

Hi all,

Just came into an older, unusual Spyderco knife. It's a Hotaru, which I understand was also at some point called the Firefly.

It's got a 1 5/8" CE blade, doesn't look like it's ever been sharpened or even used (none of those tiny scratches that just show up with use), but then again, it's not Spyderco sharp, so maybe it HAS cut things. I can't say for sure.

It actually has a thumbstud rather than the trademark hole.

Has a red LED, not terribly bright anymore.

I'll let it go for $30 shipped, paypal preferred. Scratch that, make it $25 shipped!
Alright, one more shot, last price drop: $23 shipped Priority, $20 shipped First Class.

Email mscantrell at gmail.com or PM.

Let's get 'er back to the top for people who read the forums at work :D

That's the last price drop fellas! Get 'er while she's hot!

Are you certain it's a Spyderco? IMHO all spyderco blades use the round or comat shaped hole in the blade as their trademark. I have never seen a Spyderco with a thumbstud.
My guess it's a Chinese copy of an excisting spyderco product sans the hole.

Please verify if it's really a Spyderco

Hi Mongo-man,
Good eye- I just looked around and the consensus seems to be that it's not a TRUE Spyderco, for precisely the reason you pointed out, ie the round hole.

Here's a very helpful thread on the Spyderco forum: http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13662&highlight=hotaru

As you'll see, the Hotaru was made by G. Sakai, then brought to market by Spyderco in roughly '93-'94.
It's model GS115 in the 1994 Spyderco catalog.

So. Not a true Spyderco, but rather a delightful little piece of Spyderco history. Thanks for making me clarify!:)

Mike
