FS104 METAL SURVIVAL MATCH vs BCB Fireball Flint

I don't have the answer to that question, but there are LOTS of threads about firesteels in the Wilderness forum. One of the most popular seems to be from Going Gear, a Bladeforums sponsor. It is mischmetal that throws a larger spark glob than many of the other units out there. If you use Google to search the forum you should come up with still demo pictures, links to videos, etc. There may also be such links on the Going Gear website but I haven't checked.

Here are my videos, to save you some googling.

They both look like firesteel products with included strikers. I did not see a size on the Best Glide one, but looking at the size ratio between the handle and firesteel, I'm guessing that it is a 3/8" rod vs the 1/4" rod on the County Comm version. I haven't used either one, but both companies are reputable, so they are probably fine.

Here are the blanks I sell that DWK2 was referring to.

Does anyone know if there is any real difference between the metal match from Countycomm and the Fireball Flint by BCB?

The FS104 is from Light My Fire of Sweden, and the Fireball looks to be a Mischmetal variety. Check out the wilderness forum as suggested for more details. The synopsis is that the Swedish FireSteel is a harder alloy, and it is easier to strike and control, but the sparks won't burn as long. Mischmetal flints take a different stroke to throw sparks with the softer rod, but the sparks burn longer with less control.
