Well, I think I got the FSH I was looking for. I am getting a HH FSH, but was curious about the opinions of this knife. I might still try and trade some of my other knives for the HOG FSH because I like the fat ones. Can I get some pictures and opinions of these knives. Thanks guys, I appreciate it

BTW, is there any real pro's and con's to either knife. Anyone know the specs to HH and HOg of the top of thier heads.

i had a CG FSH and it was pretty good after some serious thinning of the edge. i guess the HH didn't have the thick edge problem

I love my Hog FSH,,,,,, it is gorgeous,,,heavy , thick handle,,,,,the best ,,,,,,, and very sharp. I enjoy the heft and it's real purty to look at.

Ronnie, do you think that knife would be ok for camp chores being as thick as it is. I will have the HH FSH here in about a week, but was still thinking about getting a HOG FSH. I am worried that it might be too thick for some stuff.

Your HH will dig a trench and slice bread! fsh .25 hhfsh .27 hogfsh 0.312

If you take them both camping or packing..... you may find the hhfsh will do everything and the BM could stay home.

BTW, nice set!

Mines next to the fbm .. missing 1 Snake/Satin AD that's enroute :D

Yea, I thought about that. If I can take care of my chopping and batoning, as well as my normal camp chores with the HH, my CG FBM and my FFBM wont get much use while camping. They will still be fun to take out, but it might be a for fun only kind of thing.

Thanks bro, they are sweet. That FFBM isnt mine, but nice none the less. Its RussMo's, and thats his HH that is on its way to me. The FSH is my grail knife. Not very rare, but my perfect knife.

The Heavy Heart is a near perfect knife. One thing Jerry does in a line up like the FSH offering different thicknesses is he keeps the primary grind angle the same. The HOG has the same angle as the HH and the CG FSH. The standard FSH will have a lower sabre because it "runs out of steel" at that angle. The HH will have a slightly higher sabre and the HOg is full flat ground as that grind angle was intended.

So... The only two areas where the thickness of the HOG will be a detriment are in a slight weight penalty and when you are batoning a HOG you are going to have increased friction when you are deeper than the sabre on the other two FSH's because they would be friction free on the flats and the HOG is still presenting a wedge shape in the material.

Does that make sense?

I know this is true of the thickness/grind angle on the FSH's because I talked to the Janitor about it specifically.

Hmmmm. . . I always thought the FSH was full height grind. I think. (I'm not that bright, so bear with me. LOL) I can see that with the HH vs. HOG, but I THOUGHT the FSH has a full-height grind.

(I'd look at mine, but someone put a wickit-pissah convex on it - and it's at home so I can't check the ricasso in any event. LOL)

Now I gotta go look when I get home - It's a need-to-know at this point.

Did all the FSH have that thick edge?

Can HH owners comment on the edge of that knife?

Yes, I thought that the quick way to tell a FSH from a HH was the HH has the sabre grind. No?

Yes, HHFSH is the only FSH with sabre.

The factory edge is rather thick but strong!!!

On my users I keep the factory edge until it can't slice no more than I get out my EdgeProApex and give it a <40 degree(inclusive) polished edge.

Never had any problems with my edges chopping and/or batoning through (hard) wood.

never mind, I read your post this time and saw it. Can I send my knife to you for sharpening?
