I am really liking the FSH by the way. I wasn't sure if the handle was going to feel right to me at first but after a few swings everything just kind of fell into place. Whether choking up or gripping back my hand just seem welded to the micarta. great stuff.

You can see those marking up towards the tip of the blade. thats from push shaving twigs (maybe 1/4 inch in diameter). between that and chopping clean through 1 and 2 inch saplings in one swing...well, by this point I should know better but every Busse knife I buy continues to amaze me with the scope of what it can do.

Great pictures. The FSH are sweet blades. I can't wait. I like that SFNO too. Those magnum handles look awesome.

how much of a difference is there between the sf no and the fsh?

(specifically looking at its weight in hand, and its chopping ability)

weight in hand, the FSH feels a little bit heavier than the SFNO. I don't have a scale though so I can't be certain how much heavier. It has a bit more forward balance than the SFNO as well.

First, take into account that I injured the wrist on my strong arm a week or so back so my experience with the FSH has been somewhat limited. I had to use my weak arm with the FSH as my left was too weak, the blade kept turning because my wrist couldn't take the impact.

For light chopping, 1-2" holly saplings, I would say that the two knives are pretty evenly matched with the FSH coming out on top by virtue of its length. I did very little hard chopping with the FSH but it was easily able to make quick work of a 6"+ florida holly. Again, I think the FSH was the better chopper here, it bit deeper in the bigger trees than the SFNO seems to. And of course, there was zero dulling/chipping/rolling of the edge.

Having said all this, the SFNO is still my favorite. I carry it every day and use it every day, even if I need to manufacture excuses to do so.

But then, I'm also the sentimental type and it is my first Busse.

The HOGFSH ought to be a monster. Thicker than the SFNO with the steel heart blade? what?

oh. also, my one complaint with the SFNO is the jolt of impact up my arm when chopping larger hard woods. Not a limitation of the knife, its a limitation of my body. However, I felt none of this with the FSH, the extra length seemed to do wonders in lessening the shock of impact up my arm.

roughedges, I have the same sweet setup-SPT sheath for my SH-E ;) and it too is still my edc along with my AD and also my first sentimental Busse that I will never part with. I feel stupid for not getting a SFNO  but at the time they were offered I was not really aware of the HUGE size of the FSH :D and as I much prefer the old SH-E over my NO-E I figured the new FSH would be about the same size :footinmou I think the SFNO is close to the same size as the SH-E, which I think is the perfect light-heavyweight do all size blade and about as big as I'd want riding on my hip  I think the FSH has more in common with my old BM-E, as the FSH can keep up with my BM-E in chopping capacity but I really love the mag handles on the FSH :) Oh yeh, I can't wait to see my HOGFSH, it has got to be a BEAST :D

regarding blade weight and handling I should mention that I have a fat SFNO. I'm sure thats gonna affect weight, chopping and the like.

TheButcher: the AD or a MS will probably be my next Busse purchase. :) And I agree, the SFNO is just about the perfect do everything blade for me.

Very cool pics man. I knew I would love the FSH, but not as much as I am finding after playing with the prototypes and the HI knife. I can't wait to get my HOGFSH and give the vegetation around here something to fear! Nice SPT sheath by the way. Dan does great work doesn't he? :)

Yeah, Dan does some great work for sure. I suspect that sheath will last almost as long as the knife itself. I say almost only because no nylon is ever going to outlive a good thick slab of Infi. :)

I'll definetely contact Semper Paratus Tactical again to get some more work done. Dan obviously takes pride in his work.

I caught the bug though really. Now I'm thinking all my knives need at least two different pair of pants!

I'm a little drunk so I have to crow.

you see that tree trunk the FSH is sitting on? that dang thing is australian pine and heavy as anything. 4 to 5 hundred pounds according to the tractor operator who took it up front on my friends property.

I pushed and pulled that thing up a triple split section deck!

I've got to say the fat SFNO is an awesome 'tool'.
Not only does it chop like a demon, but I used it (mainly for fun) to cut up some tropical plants. 'limbs' were about an inch in diameter, soft stemmed, but it cut like the dickens. again and again it sliced like I was using a kitchen knife on a tomato. Really, not kidding at all.

The best part is, I think it actually cleaned the blade. IT seemed to have a high polish in the area I was cutting with that it didn't have before.

Roughedges, when are you gonna come use them to clear out this holly??

mordachai isn't kidding. the sfno was slicing clean through those tropicals like it was a steak knife cutting a banana.

I'll be out there today or tomorrow marc. let me know if neil and roman don't go and help mickey out too- I could use some exercise.
