hello, can someone recommend a fuel camp stove like the esbit,i am looking for a fuel tab stove,i have been looking but it seems esbit is the only one....

the "wetfire" stove will also use esbit- wetfire is a great tinder, but a poor fuel for stoves (tested side by side)

it's a very small (and light- titanium) stove, but works great for solo cooking (w/ smaller pots)- a light windscreen helps

a really nice stove that burns alcohol, esbit AND wood is the fourdog bushcooker- a couple of sizes to choose from- nests in your pot http://www.fourdog.com/index_files/bushcooker.htm

And here I just invested in a new white gas stove for backpacking. It's what I learned to use as a kid. I just can't seem to break the habit. :D

These esbit stoves do seem interesting, though. Do they work well at altitude?

I've used mine at 10,000' w/ no problems :)

boil times aren't going to be on par w/ white case or canister stoves, but the "stoves" are generally pretty light and small- and w/ a little ingenuity your windscreen can double as a wood stove- makes it pretty versatile and lowers the weight you carry in fuel

Yeah, I was noticing the lower weight in fuel thing. Maybe I'll experiment with an esbit stove once I get over my buyer's remorse for my new MSR simmerlight now that you guys have drawn my attention to esbit.

What I'd like to use is a wood burning stove, but open flames in general are frowned on in California, especially in the summer time where wildfires are always a concern. If I was in a wetter, more wooded place (Oregon, Washington, Minnesota), I'd be definitely looking at something like the bush buddy.

I wouldn't have any remorse over the simmerlight- it's a solid 4 season stove, something esbit isn't (would be brutal melting snow w/ Esbit or alcohol for that matter)

Titanium Goat collaborated with Trail Designs' Caldera Cone system and created one of the best cook units I have ever used. It's all I carry now and have not looked back. They come in a few different sizes too. I have the 500mL and it cost me about $100. If you have the money to spare you wont be sorry. It burns denatured alcohol or like substance, esbit cubes and best of all wood. That way if you don't have to burn through your fuel every time you use it.

If you do get you a tablet stove of some sort be sure to check out the Weber fire starter cubes sold at Home Depot, Ace, and other hardware stores. From what I can tell, it is the same stuff as wetfire tenders but at a huge savings.
