It's a product by birchwood-casey that is a wood preservative and finish. It is what our own Steve Ferguson uses on his khukuri to make them look stunningly like this: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7457523&postcount=3

It doesnt necessarily stain it dark and yes, it is fairly easy to use.
