I`m not generally a super Spydie lover but this thing really has me thinking. Smooth shape, flat ground blade,it looks like a winner. How good is VG10 compared to ATS34? Thanks. Marcus
Hi Marcus - I have found VG-10 to be easier to maintain than ATS-34. IMO better peformance than AUS-8. I wish that Spydie would use more VG-10 in their line, possibly converting the core models (Endura, Delica, Rescue) to use this steel. For medium to heavy duty work, I believe that you won't have any problems with VG-10. I've got both plain and serrated versions of the full sized Calypso, and they both came out of the box hair-splitting sharp. The plain edge will shave your arm clean

The C54 Calypso is awesome. I carry the plain edge version and as Dexter said, it does shave very nicely. I have medium sized hands, and it fits and feels really good. So far, using it for daily cutting tasks, I haven't had to resharpen it.
Off the subject; Wasn't Calypso a Greek goddess??
