I handled one of these recently, and it is really a sweet knife. It is not much like the Calypso Jr. at all, more like a Police. The blade is thin and long, a vert good cutter. The handle is probably the best part. They took the Calypso Jr. handle and streched it out to the size of the Police. It is long and slender, but retains the shape of the Calypso Jr.

I handled it at a local knife shop, and I might buy it from them. It is way overpriced, but that is the way most knife shops are.

To anyone who has both the Police and Full sized Calypso, which one do you like more? Why?

:)

I don't have a Police model, butt I have three Calypsos. They are great cutters due to the flatground blade of VG10 steel and the micarta is sleek and slim. They ride very deep and discreet in a pocket and open with a very positive "clack" with no blade play at all. A very classy knife.

I don't have a Police model either, but I do own a Calypso. However, I personally prefer the full-flat grind on the Calypso to the saber grind on the Police model. Additionally, you have to consider that the Calypso is a long-discontinued model...

Everything that you noted about the Calypso is true - great blade geometry, handle ergonomics are superb, and the micarta scales are classy. It's a fantastic knife!

You can post in the Knives Wanted section to see if someone here has one they would part with, personally I just got one back and plan on keeping it a long time, it is a very good knife! And as mentioned, the VG-10 takes a great edge...

I have a G-10, ATS-55 Police model and a large Calypso.
They are both excellent thin edged folders and both are screamingly good cutters. For strength, I prefer the Police as it has the steel liner. The Police also has an adjustable tension pivot. However, the Calypso has a much better steel IMO. The Calypso's handle is a bit slick feeling for me so I put a piece of stairway traction tape on it and that made a world of difference for me. Also, the Calypso has a kind of elegance to it. I use it as a large gent's folder and it works well in that capacity.
Good luck choosing between these two.:D

My advice about a Large calypso is....BUY IT!!
No matter what it cost. You will handle a lot of knives
in a lifetime and none will match the elgance or cutting
abiltiy of the calypso for the money.

None..........

Just got a Calypso jr.Now I am thinking of getting the Calypso.I would like to have PE but the knife shop that has some local are SE.Is 95.00 a bad deal?

I designed the Calypso for my personal carry. Unfortunately, not enough people shared my taste for this model. We built it right though.

Sal, I for one would like to thank you for making that knife!

And from the responses I've read throughout the forums, it may be making a come back!

Others have thought that scales of Titanium would be nice but I think the original version in the light micarta is great!

Those of you that also think this knife should make a come back, why not add your thoughts here and let your friends know to also voice thier thoughts on this knife...

Gary / Sal, I coudn't agree more about a come back for the large & small
calypso. I've often wondered why Sal didn't add the calypso to the stable
line along with the endura and delica.

As a guess why more folk's didn't buy the large calypso could have been
the price due the the micarta. This knife was never offered in FRN to hold
cost down so folk's never could afford to buy many of them. I know I had
to wait a long time to find a deal on E-bay before I could afford a large calypso.

So how about a FRN version for the masses and I'd bet spyderco could sell
a lot more of this very effiecent knife design.

A limited run in carbon fiber w/ VG-10 blade would be nice. I'd pre order this one.
