Hey guys, i plan on getting a Cyclone pretty soon from NGK and getting it sent here to Canada... anyways my question is which would you get, or do u think is more suitable for me?
The Full sized Cyclone or the Mini (both aluminum scales, please dont get into zdp as those are not my options lol)

1. My concerns are towards the full sized being too large, like when i pop it out, im afraid that it would scare away the cats
2. I plan on edcing the knife
3. I dont mind bulky or heavy knives
4. Im also afraid of the knife being too small that is not able to perform some yard work

But my main concern that with the large cyclone, being 3.75 inches compared to 3.19 inches, that the full sized may seem too "scary" or "dangerous" looking to the public.

Just asking for opinions..anything would be nice (stay on topic tho lmao)

ok, well welcome to the Kershaw forum first and formost! i see you did your research on our insanity and getting off topic...OH LOOK! A BUNNY!!! j/k :)

as for your question, i doubt that it would scare your cats away (at least i asume its your pets lol). I have the Offset which makes a louder thwack IMO, and my cat doesnt even flinch. neither do the dogs, who are alot younger and a bit more energetic.

as for what work it can do, well lets just say that it should be able to handle the yardwork with no worries. It is a stout knife.

im not sure as to what you mean by "will it be to big?" I am currently trying to find a knife that my hand CANT dwarf. lol. all told, the large cyclone fits the hand well. designed very well in all respects. if you are like me (6'3", 230 lbs) then the knife will fit perfectly if its the fullsize cyclone. if its the smaller one, then well, personally i feel that it is a tad to small. hope that helps you visualize. i will see if i can get someone else who has both to post some pics of them holding it, with a hand messurment for ya.

as for the "scarring of the populace", i wouldnt worry about it unless i HAD to take it out in public. when i carry my ZT0200 (which dwarfs the Cyclone period), i avoid taking it out unless i am with friends so as not to scare the natives. but im that way with my leek also (dang that sounds bad :p :foot:), but i digress. there really isnt that to horribly much diference to some people in terms of blade length, be it the 3.75 inches of the Cyclone, or the 3.19 of the mini cyclone. get whichever you feel is right for what you need it to do.

hope that helps! and welcome again!

Here's a few pics that might help...size reference: I'm 6'6", 245 lbs...

Either one carries very well, and you won't scare the sheeple or the cats with them. If you feel uncomfortable whipping em out in public, turn the SpeedSafe off!

Hope this helps!

I usually prefer to carry knives that are a little bit on the larger side (3.5" to 4" blade length), but the Cyclone model is wide enough so that I actually prefer the smaller one.

A larger knife will always look more threatening to the general populace than a smaller one. Based on reactions I have gotten, the larger Cyclone is definitely large enough to scare sheeple.

erp? those were just regular cyclones. unless they issued ZDP's without the grey handle.

i havnt seen to many ZDP cyclones, and i really wasnt paying to much attention. lol I only have the ZDP Franken Leek (it has the Alum handles, not the Ti. Rosconey took the Ti handles and put it on a DAM Leek).

well they are pretty little things with grey matte handles and black blades. and they should put them back into production so we can all swoon again.

YN: Welcome aboard! I'm a big guy (6'4" 290lbs.), and I carry both the Large, and Mini Cyclones, although the Mini usually rides in my back pocket as a back up. I like having a fairly large knife as my primary EDC; better to have to much blade than not enough. Is there any way for you to check both out at a store? It would be cool to hold them, and see how they ride in your pocket, etc..

As you can see from the Don's pics, the Large isn't really that much bigger than the Mini. I haven't seen too much negative reaction from Sheeple when whipping out my Large Cyclone either. With that being said, I'd give the Large Cyclone a try first.

Good luck, and be sure to let us know what you decide.

Hey thanks for the opinions guys, and sorry Elarski, i dont really know any stores in my area that i have access to benchmades. I live in Canada and is deciding to order from NGK.

lmao thanks for the corrections
yea it was because i have another thread in the canadian connections regarding legality of axis locks and if they are politically friendly, i was thinking of looking into a mini grip if the cyclone wasnt for me.

But all in all i think its gonna be the mini cyclone, now i still gotta decide on what i want now that ive narrowed down the kershaw side.

You want a heavy knife get the mini. You want an even heavier knife get the full.

Remember, some guys clean deer with Case peanuts. Get the mini. It will do.
