I don't know too much about RANDALL'S knives, are some of them full tang?
Which ones?
If not, how strong are these knives? Did anyboby test them?
thanks

I think the closest Randall comes to a "full" tang is with the #14 & #15. The other models come with "stick" tangs - a very commom method of making tangs. I've never heard of a Randall failing because of a broken tang. I guess you could break any knife's tang but I certainly would not loose any sleep worrying about the strength of a Randall tang.

Loki, Randall does make some stick tangs (those with no butt cap) but remember that those tangs with butt caps are not technically "stick" tangs because they go all the way through the handle and are secured with a nut on the end. The #14/15/16 heavy tangs are strongest, the tangs with butt caps are next strongest with the stick tangs (no butt caps) last.

Hello,

there's only three Randalls with the full tang--the model 17 Astro, the model 10 saltwater knives and the non-catalog Triathlete, which is an all-stainless (no handle scales) knife. The Triathlete and the saltwater knives are of thinner stock (1/8"), but the Astro is forged out of 1/4" steel. The Astro does have a hollowed out compartment for matches, etc. in the tang itself, so the strength is somewhat compromised, but it's an awfully tough knife.

The models 14 and 15 are great knives and you'd have to abuse the heck out of them to even begin to come close to bending or breaking one.

Hope this information is useful.

I haqve a model 14, 16, and 15 with a full tang. I think you should redefine your idea of full tang. No insult meant.

Hi Sam,

thanks for your input (and no offense taken). IMHO a full tang knife is one that has an exposed tang throughout the length and width of the handle contour. As you well know, the Randall 14, 15 and 16 all have an extra heavy 7/8" wide tang that runs the full length of the handle.
