Can anyone tell me which Kukri's that are on HI's website are full tang models. From what I've read on posts here, I know the CAK's are full tang, but am not sure of the others. Thanks

Pete-The M-43, CAK,AK bowie, and YCS(I am not sure if always on the YCS...)have chiruwa or pinned scale handles as do some other smaller knives.Traditional handled knives are full tanged in that the tang goes all the way through the handle and is peened over the keeper-and this type includes nearly all other HI blades with the exception of the Hanuman.Best of my recollection.Joe.

Pete,

Welcome mate.
It very much depends on your application.
Most Nepalese will settle for a partial tang but you sound like you fancy a chiruwa or some call it Panawal.
Models can be made into exposed tang if you like (or if you score one on Dotd as i remember a Chiruwa BAS before) but the peened tang is very strong in terms of construction.
I changed my preference from exposed to rat tang since my palm sweat so much the tang rust quick.

Thanks Jay,, I am new to using these, and am just trying to figure out what is what so to speak. I've read and learned so much on this forumn and now I do believe that I'm over thinking things a bit. I have a couple UVG's, and a WWII coming, but want MORE!!! Your right, the Chiruwa AK is next on my list... I have to say that I'm glad I found this forumn, because if not, I more than likely would have bought one off of ebay or one of the Kukri houses and been disappointed.. You get what you pay for, I learned that lesson with folders years ago... Thanks for the reply....

You do need a CAK in your collection but after owning and using both rat and chiruwa handles I have come to like the rat tail more. The handle is more comfortable and i have had no issues with strength.

The partial tang hanumans however are best for display or light use only.

Funny, I just haven't ever felt a need for a CAK. My collection at this point has a pretty fair amount of special blades. I've got a WWII, an ASTK, a Gelbu and a Siru, and the wife has a Cobra, but I've also got a pair of UF's, a katana, and (I'm really excited about this), a Manjushree that should arrive Saturday.

What makes the CAK so important to a collection?

OK Jay.. I plan on using both UVG's this weekend to clear some brush anyways...I'll try to write a review some time this weekend.. Probably Sunday p.m. I'm going to see if one of my kid's can show me how to post pic's.. I'm going to try some different techniques that members recommended when using them this weekend, and I'll try to review what worked best for me. The WWII I received was sweet, almost to nice to use.. Almost..........

.as
Pete,
Let's do a review on the UVG and tell us how you like it.
I already love it.

Jay

Pete,

I know it's weekend but please stay sober.
Khuk and alcohol don't mix!:p:D
Jay, I imagine your right about that.. It's been my experience that not many activities that involve sharp objects, if any at all,, mix well with alcohol.. Those days are long gone for me anyways.. Fortunately, with age, common sense seems to improve.... Not all the time though:D
