Full titanium hardwear for Benchmade Emerson CQC-7 970ST - anyone done this?

Hoping someone out there has done the full Ti conversion for their Benchmade Emerson 970ST. Clip, screws, disk.....full Ti all around. Need to set up my 970 (awesome knife BTW) for full time diving use and the steel hardware, although serviceable, is showing signs of oxidation. Anyone have a source for these parts? A direct swap would be ideal of course, but I am comfortable with mods, if necessary. Just need to switch over to full Ti.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm sure the titanium screws you can find directly from EKI will fit the 970. I can't attest personally but I'm sure someone here can. As for the thumb disc, look up Pete Grey (Grey Precision) or Street Reaper.

Ttran778,

Thanks for the info. Have you done this swap yourself or seen it done? The reason I ask is that the construction of the 970 is very different than the EKI CQC-7s. The screws on the spine span the width of the knife and the stop pin is not floating as on the EKIs. Also, the pivot is much smaller in diameter WRT the screw head. Not a straight swap as far as I can see.

Unless EKI sells Ti screws that will fit model with a backspacer, the screws won't be long enough. Also, the thumb disk on the 970 is smaller than a standard EKI one and a direct swap isnt possible. I think you will have to have someone machine Ti screws and other parts for you.

I've thought about doing something similar to mine and have come to the conclusion that I'll have to get the parts special made

That is what I was worried about. I am on the verge of just drilling/tapping it to fit some Ti hardware I already have. Is there a source for a decent variety of Ti without going custom?

The Benchmade has completely different construction than the Emerson 7.

Buying a new diving knife will be cheaper than the pimp job you are proposing.

And Ti as a stop pin is a big NO GO. It is far to soft. Also why go through the trouble of drilling and tapping? It's an inferior method. You would be better making standoffs... Ive had the same ideas floating in my head and it isnt worth it.

Cheers

Check with Nathawut from Thailand. I have a couple of knives which i had him change the entire hardware for so that i could use them out sea.
