Hi Hugh. Thanx for the info on the bashing. It happens. I personally believe that any knowledgable knife person that has and uses our knives would not bash, but it happens.
"
We extend our best effort to conduct business in an honest, fair and proper manner". We try to be transparent. We test and retest each and every run. We break them (both blades and locks), we dull them, we check angles, we rust them, we have created our own numerical standard for lock strength for each model and we test constantly to meet those standards. We use the best materials and upgrade whenever a better material becomes available.

We do all of this to create in our customer (ELU) a feeling of trust.

It takes time to learn trust. If one keeps an open mind and truly looks closely, then we are appreciated for our efforts. If one just looks quickly with preconceived notions, then they don't see us. The more you know, the better we look.

But....we cannot please everyone. Customers buy knives for a large variety of reasons. I think you will see very little bashing on the Spyderco forums. Perhaps it's a more aware attitude, perhaps it's just mutual respect, perhaps it's a type of maturity (right Clay?).

Perhaps in time, if he/she continues to become involved in the knife industry, they will learn that our "cheap" plastic models have been driven over by trucks with little or no damage. Loose blades? serrations that break off cutting paper? Hard for me to believe, but far be it from me to say someone isn't sharing their honest personal experience.

Sal,
Just to cheer you up, I own a Native in S30V and consider it to be the finest folding knife I have ever purchased. I, for one, am a very satisfied customer.
Thanks for all your efforts in creating this knife for me.

Sal, I did not mean to make a big deal of this, I just thought that you might want to know about it since I know that you are really busy and keep track of every thread. I suspect that this is most likely a case of counterfeit copies, since I cannot imagine Spydies doing what he says his have done, nor can I imagine a store being that easy about taking them back unless they are into something. I know very few around the Middle Atlantic that would.

And, yes, you are generally right about Spyderco growing on you. The first time that I saw one, I said, "God, how ugly!" Then I picked up a Police a played with it for a while. I wound up buying it at full MSRP at the time and I have been hooked on your products ever since, having more of them than I care to count. With a few exceptions, I have loved all of them, and those exceptions are desigh matters, not quality problems.

perhaps it's a type of maturity (right Clay?).
Hey Sal, are you just checking too see if I still lurk here?:D Seriously I think you're right, there is a maturity on the Spyderco forums that has nothing to do with age. Perhaps it's as Fuller indicated, Spydercos are an acquired taste that require a "mature palate" like very dry white wine and black olives :).

Hi Sal, your text:

Loose blades? serrations that break off cutting paper?
are you refering to the thread by curious2003 , title 'new Spyderco owner questions' in General Knife Discussion at the Knife Forums?
where the guy says
...part of the Endura’s serration chipped off from cutting newspapers and a transparent garbage bag when I was testing it!!!

This is so ridiculous, that I hesitated to reply there, although I may do it.
I find interesting the Serg's (Mitin) replies to the thread, although some of his ideas
Put your blade into the vise, pull the plastic handle sideways and you will see that just quarter (or even less) of adult man force is enough to break such knife
would make even Cliff Stamp jealous.

Best regards,

Franco

I just received an S30V Native and consider this knife to be the BEST knife available for its price range. I spent a small amount of time "touching up" the edge (it came shaving sharp) and have sold two of my co-workers on this knife. They cannot believe how sharp you can get this steel. Thank you Sal for another "Winner".

Right now I own 2 spyderco's. FRN PE Delica w/ VG-10, and FRN PE Native w/ CPMS30V. My god I couldn't be happier. As others have said.... the Native is the best folding knife I own!
Do I think that FRN looks cheap and that the knives are ugly?? Well honestly the first time I ever saw a Spyderco I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever laid eyes on...Geez that distinct Spyderco look just grabs a hold of you though! It really is an acquired taste and it takes a more mature person to understand its functionality over form beauty. ( this is coming from a 17 year old whose parents tell him constantly to grow up... ) And as for FRN...hell i think that the Delica's FRN looks cheap as hell, but it's my beater knife and it performs amazingly at that task!! (If you would issue that knife in G-10 again I think I would like it more than the Native! Love the blade shape on the Delica!) The Native's FRN is fine though...that Spiderweb pattern is more classy by far.
Sorry for rambling Sal..all I'm trying to say is that I love the knives you guys make and I will be purchasing many more in the future.
-Kevin
p.s.- So how bout that G-10 Delica??
;)
