Hi Hugh. Thanx for the info on the bashing. It happens. I personally believe that any knowledgable knife person that has and uses our knives would not bash, but it happens.
"
We extend our best effort to conduct business in an honest, fair and proper manner". We try to be transparent. We test and retest each and every run. We break them (both blades and locks), we dull them, we check angles, we rust them, we have created our own numerical standard for lock strength for each model and we test constantly to meet those standards. We use the best materials and upgrade whenever a better material becomes available.
We do all of this to create in our customer (ELU) a feeling of trust.
It takes time to learn trust. If one keeps an open mind and truly looks closely, then we are appreciated for our efforts. If one just looks quickly with preconceived notions, then they don't see us. The more you know, the better we look.
But....we cannot please everyone. Customers buy knives for a large variety of reasons. I think you will see very little bashing on the Spyderco forums. Perhaps it's a more aware attitude, perhaps it's just mutual respect, perhaps it's a type of maturity (right Clay?).
Perhaps in time, if he/she continues to become involved in the knife industry, they will learn that our "cheap" plastic models have been driven over by trucks with little or no damage. Loose blades? serrations that break off cutting paper? Hard for me to believe, but far be it from me to say someone isn't sharing their honest personal experience.
