I have an old pivot Umnum that I’ve recently come to truly love. I’m thinking about picking up one of the new Umnums though and sending it off to have the handle, blade, and hardwear coated in either cerakote or DLC. Anyone ever done this? I’m wondering if it will negatively impact the action or if there are any other downsides?

I have a feeling that you would have a problem with the new tolerances after coating, especially on the hardware due to the already tight tolerances on the Reeve knives. You would also have no warranty should you need it. JMO

That’s one of the things I’m worried about.

That's right, I did it :) Had the scales Cerakoted OD green. I only had to lightly sand the holes for the main pivot a bit to get the pivot through as it did tighten up a bit. It functions perfectly.

I did not do the blade though. With the perforated washers I think you'd run into issues with the blade coated as well.

If you do coat the blade you could always mask off the areas where the washers make contact so you still get the original blade to washer contact.

Thanks for the feedback! How has the cerakote held up? You didn't do the pivot pin or standoffs either, right?

How has the cerakoted finish held up?
Any news pics?
