Well, I saw the mention of the convexing of the BK9 so I figured I'd show some shots of a BK1 that I reprofiled a while back. These were "in transition" shots of the process as I was trying to explain to a fellow forumite about what I was doing. Haven't taken any more since but it's been out playing many times and it does quite well, no rolling or chipping.
Yes, from the factory the BK9 is superior in almost every way (except literally as a pry bar) to the BK1, and I much prefer it. MY Brute, however, will spank any factory BK9 that's ever come off the line.
Of course, as the other thread mentions, some reprofiling can be done there too...
Please forgive the gratuitous paper slicing shots--they were only to prove to the original owner of the knife that I'd spoken the truth about the Brute: it wasn't that it couldn't cut, it just needed some help. Just copy-pasting my final message to him below.

<<Well, here she goes. The final shot with the paper is after both sides had been done, but I did one side completely before hitting the other so I could show some compare and contrast shots. In the middle of the belly, at 3mm up the blade starting at the edge, the thickness with factory geometry was 2.4mm. With the new geometry at the same place and height, it's now 1.3mm. It'll push cut paper all day, shave newsprint, and will whittle my grey hairs if I'm careful. Won't quite whittle the brown ones as they're not as stiff, but what the hell----it's meant as a big bruiser, not a straight razor. >>
