I joined this forum probably two years ago. It was a little frustrating initially for a 53 year old guy to figure out the computer nuances. And I think I got into trouble once for writing a funny review of a knife I was selling. But I must say that my experience here has been really positive. I have sold and bought quite a few knives and have had nothing but good experiences. Being a bit of a cynic I gotta tell you that it has surprised me. Pleasantly. It's been a real pleasure to play with the knives and appreciate the craftsmanship and the conversation on the forum. I'm an actor/ writer who got into making tobacco pipes while rehearsing a play at the Shaw Festival in Canada. I was thrilled when people started to buy my pipes. And I am back making them again. But this aint an advertisement for my pipes. Just a note to say that it has been fun playing here on the forum. It is very well run, and it's a lot of fun engaging with folks who appreciate craftsmanship and behave in a civilized manner. So, long story short... thanks Bladeforums.

All the best,
Colm (akaFinnegan)

Hope you're sticking around mate! I joined about 3 years ago but had been a member of the other major forum site for about a decade previous. This one has been the better of the two and I've posted and enjoyed my time here (and the people for the most part) a lot more.

My experience here has taught me that the vast majority of folks are pretty honest, at least in regards to this hobby. I've gotten a talking to from the mods a couple times over the years, but live and learn. Overall, my experience has been great too. The only downside is that it's helped me spend a heck of a lot of money!

Being Irish I remember getting pretty hot with some guy over a sale... Then getting on the phone and both of us realizing we were both being a bit bloody ridiculous. All was good in the end. Just very different personalities. That's the danger of words on a screen without faces in front of you. Hence, the state of the world. Thanks for your response. All the best.

Ditto!!! I just picked up a carbon fiber Spyderco Dodo here, sent to my address in Portland so I had to wait weeks to get it, but I am thoroughly thrilled. What an incredible knife. The best of Spyderco's "little-big" knives I think. I know, some guys think it is ugly as sin, but I think it demonstrates Eric's capacity to continue his fathers company- really great value for really good knives. I was also very pleased to get this USA made knife from Spyderco and find it was as well made as the Taiwan knives. My Chokwe is a brilliant knife for the money. That father and son (and wife of course!!!!!) team deserve a star on the fridge for sure.

Hey brother, hope you stick around. This place is made up of some really great folks and you sound like one of 'em.

I know that sounds like an ad for Spyderco, but I assure you I don't know the guys from Adam!!! I just appreciate good value. Small knife makers of course have a heck of a time trying to produce products at that price. And when I have the cash, I am more than willing to pay small producers for lovely work.

I dunno what experiences you've had in the past, but in my experience periods are not 'fun and games'

:p
