Fun discovery in the $5 bin

My wife and I went to a store a couple of hours away from us this evening. They happen to have a few used knives there. She, being the wonderful woman I married, suggested I dig through the $5 bins for some knives to practice my sharpening skills on. I started digging and found a couple of Imperial Ireland, which I grabbed, then I opened the blade on a nice little folder and saw Case XX staring up at me. I grabbed that one, too and away we went. Here she is:

Nice little stockman from, I believe, 1973 or thereabouts. I honestly think that when I slipped this knife in my pocket for the ride home it was the first time anyone had carried it. Neat little find. :) Sorry for the crummy pictures. Proves that listening to my wife is a pretty good idea most of the time!

I can never resist looking through used knife bins. You never know what you might find.

"Collecting Case Knives", by Steve Pfeiffer is a great resource. I believe Steve is a forum member.

knife bins and $5 sales are two of the main reasons I'm not supposed to carry cash or go in flee markets when I'm low on funds anymore :(

doesn't stop me, mind, but we are aware of my problem,

nice find, sir

Great score! They are out there, just takes a little looking...

Yes, 1940-'64. Narrowing it further, Case started putting pattern stamps ('9333' on your knife) on knives after 1949, so this one would be 1950-'64, most likely. No pattern stamps on blades prior to that. Imitation pearl, and the pattern was called a 'Baby Premium Stock' knife*. 2-5/8" closed.

That's a GREAT find!

Nice score sir. And a wise decision to listen to the wife every now and then.

Now.......I'm off to the flea market!

You really scored on the Case.... You don't often see those, especially in that condition.

Great find. I always look for those bins hoping to find a treasure but haven't yet.

It's good to know that there are others with the same problem.
