Fun New Year's Eve Knife Usage (Le Saberage)

cool knife.. I like that shape and beautiful handle. But what the hell did you do to that bottle!? Guess I have to google le Sabrage... :-)

Don't you get glass in your champagne, that way?

The champagne bottle has pressure in it and will hopefully blow any extra glass away. If done right the break is pretty clean. So, there shouldn't be any glass. You can check the champagne flutes for glass if you are concerned. If you shatter the bottle don't use the champagne.

Sounds like a fun thing to do with my sword. Seems like this is something that could go terribly awry on say... the 3rd or 4th bottle.

Everyone seems to advise using the spine of the blade not the edge. So, something like your Bush Sword would probably work better. Most of what I have seen done was with chef's knives. And, it is definitely something that you want to do with a little arm room and in a safe direction.

Thanks Roger! Here is a better photo of the knife:

And here I am showing off my chopping prowess with it on a gingerbread house last year:

I have a new gingerbread chopper this year. I'll have to post the video some time.
