Well it looks like I'm heading back to a big shop. I was out of work/trying to go full time knife making for about five months now and finally found a job I think I will enjoy. I am a EDM/CNC/ Mold Maker, have been for about twelve years or so. This will give me the oppurtunity to put myself in a better postion for goin full time in the future.

I will always make knives, but part time for now. I thought I could do it fulltime but I guess I just seemed to have alot of knife work becuase I was working. When I have the time I can get alot of work done. and if the orders don't come in behind it you can clean up your work load and the money you make at very quickly. But for now I can run machines and get my own business grown to point that I can do it on my own.

Jimi,

It's always the same, time or money. We never have both at the same time. This will give you a chance to get all those goodies for the knife shop.
Your hearing from a man who won't be taking a new job in this life time.
I think I'll walk the dog this afternoon. YAWN :D :D

I never cared for working for others

of course I dabble in anything that intrigues me here for a time then
move on, I'll never get rich,,,
but that's money they won't get from me either  :D
I'm going to pat the cat.. :D

I am glad to see that you two are being so nice to your pets. No, I'm not going there, this is not W&C!!!! :D

One thing I really like about walking the pooch is he doesn't tell me to hurry up or to get busy. He just relies on me to have a bone in my pocket. Easy enough, huh.:D

Good luck to you, Jimi. Sometimes we need to have a breather and get our heads straight. Consider the last 5 months just that. I still may wind up getting another job myself, but for now I am enjoying working for myself.

*Yawn* *stretch*

My dog just farted, so I doubt I'll be petting him anytime soon. :D

Keep that pooch away from the forge! :D

I know how you feel, I just went back to work a few weeks ago. It is disappointing and exciting at the same time. I really like my new job and especially the steady paycheck. ;) Funny thing is I have not made a knife in more than six weeks. I have just recently been getting the itch again. We will see what happens, but you all might want to keep your eyes open for my knife making equipment "for sale" announcement.

I don't like the sound of that last line. hope its because you're upgrading..

Had my first couple days at the new shop, not bad. I kinda like useing electricity to burn steel. But I'd rather be making knives.

sounds like your giving in..it take time but you have to keep beating that drum..

No, not giving up yet. Sarcasm is hard to convey over the internet. I should have put the rolling eyes thing or something at the end of that statement. I have too much time and money invested in my shop to turn around and sell it all. Plus the minute that I do, i will be complaining that I don't have any tools. :D

Now that I am free to make what I want to make, I am taking it easy by not making anything. Soon, very soon, I will get back into the shop. I have some ideas that have been rolling around in my head for a few years that I want to try, like some powdered metal stuff (now that I have a press), some real intricate multibar damascus, and a few medieval pieces.

So I am not dead, just sleeping. ;)

I have always worked for myself - either on out family businesses or later as a knife delaer/maker.
That´s why I have eight dogs!:D
