Ranger:

Here are a some explanations that I posted on another forum--------

"This blade was edge quenched, and the initial acid etch just didn't bring out the temper line like I wanted, so I decided to play a little.

I used Ferric Chloride mixed between 2 and 3 to 1 (1 part FC and between 2 and 3 parts water). Initially etched entire blade for 15 minutes.

Took it out and sanded with 600, then etched for another 15 minutes.

The third etch was for about 20 minutes after I put the resist on the lower portion of the blade."

"The resist was made utilizing state of the art materials. I used some of the prettiest red fingernail polish I could find.

Then just used lacquer thinner to remove it after etching."

Hope this helps.

P.S. There is another pic of the knife with the finished sheath here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324638
