Had an imperial blank I had started on a long time ago, figured it was time to finish it up. It was saber ground and had a real curvy clip, I flat ground it, lengthend the grind line, threw on some staghorn sumac scales, straightened the spine out and shortened and rounded the integeral guard a bit. I wanted large "pins", but figured this would be a great opportunity to try out some of the cutlers rivits that good ol' Dale sent me (thanks again man), worked like a charm. Not near as hectic as I thought working with the rivits would be, not a problem at all really, not much change in the routine, other than inletting the handles for the heads. Anyway here are the poor quality pics:

P.S I'll learn to keep my fingers away from the sander.....eventually.

Yeowch! over one square 1/4 inch of skin<:-(

Hey MM,
Great work as usual.............the knife that is, not the finger.
I am glad the rivets worked. Jantz sells rivet drills to counter sink the rivet heads. A bit pricey ($25) but they keep me from messing up a lot of wood. :D

Keep up the great work, and keep your fingers clear of the machinery.;)
Dont feel too bad though, I buried a Dremel bit into the base of my thumb when working on those knives for LT.

There is a great thread in Knife Network about "What's Your Percentage?" It is a discussion by knife makers about how often they bleed when making knives. Many have a 100% rate, ie; they bleed with every knife they make.

Take care,

haha, thanks Dale. I try, but something draws blood nearly every time I start work on something. either the dremel, belt sander, or the knife i'm working on. Taping the blades dosen't always help :O. That dremel incident sounds painful, the worst I've had with the dremel so far is having a reinforced cutting wheel explode in my face, good thing I had the respirator and glasses on, or it may have preferated my face, still peppered my ears a bit. I may end up ordering one of those bits if I decide to use rivits alot. I already have a $100+ order that I need to submit to Jantz, mostly a good stock of belts. Belts here are $11 for 3, I can get 5 (IIRC) for $11 from Jantz, and they also have the 220 and 600 grit belts too. Well I'm gonna get off here, I have quite bit of school work to get done. I have a 750 word essay on Bo Randall that I need to finish. Then I have another 750 words to write about Bill Scagel, should be fairly easy, alot to write about those men. Well, Take care all

How come I never got to write about knife makers when I was in school???
That is great MM! I am glad you can write about something that is interesting to you.

As far as belts go,......you might want to give a look at supergrit.com they have some really good belts for metal working and they are at or less than Jantz's prices.

Have fun writing about Bo.

well, 876 words later, I'm finished with Bo's report. I'll finish up ol man scagels tommorow. Mom just asked me to make her a paring knife, so....guess who is getting ready to head out to the shop? She also wants 3 boning knives and a fillet knife aswell . The reports were supposed to be on a famous artist, I inquired with my online teacher and he approved of me writing about the two men after I forked up some proof of who they were, I don't think I could ever go back to public school, sleep till noon, work till 7 school work till 10-11, sleep till noon repeat :D
