been a fun week for Becker usage and collecting :)

last weekend, went camping, and was in charge of a fire pit for a while, so out come the tools :)

used a Fiskars splitting axe to reduce some large oak logs into middling stuff. then used a KaBar TacTool that i got directly from the KaBar booth at Blade 2009, with custom stainless bolts by Tooj ;) used as a "fro", the TacTool makes a great way to quickly turn even the hardest most reluctant wood into nice thin stuff.

as a departure, i then used a Mora 2000 and a Fallkniven Njord to make fuzz sticks; my only other Becker with me is a nice old MachAx in the Eagle Sheath; it's sharp, but it's not Scandi sharp - best left with a chopping edge imho.

due to recent inspiration by Hedgehog Leatherworks video on Top Down fire making, i set up a great big old arrangement of stuff - two rows of big log on the bottom, two middlings in the middle, and then layer of stuff leading to very fine on top. as it was twice as long as wide, i setup two nests to get the fire started, with the fuzz sticks. viola. good stuff. nice fire :)

over the weekend, i met up with another forumite to do a trade for some stuff, and general show and tell. for my part, i got myself a nice last generation BK-5 Magnum Camp. it's apparently one of the about 75 that escaped having any obvious tang stamps, so it's "sterile", though there are suggestions that there might be a thin stamp under the coating. hard to say.

it occurs to me that some of these sterile ones might be used in the "fake" Cincinnati re-makes i've seen a couple places - someone is buying old pin lock sheaths, and then stripping, and drilling the Camillus models and passing them off. these fakes are definitely not the old stainless models going for $$$. beware.

so, it's been a good week for Beckering...

can you start a thread like this with no pics? what an awful tease...

sometimes you are just too busy DOING and don't have time to stop and take 30 pictures every 5 minutes to document ;)

i do have a camera phone picture of the fire, but i haven't uploaded it yet to determine quality :)

thus, i write you pretty prose ;) SUFFER MIGHTILY !!! :)
